Austell Intermediate School’s 2010- 2011 Yearbook Cover Art Contest

Austell Intermediate School is having a contest to find the actual covers of the yearbook. We are looking for original artwork to grace the front and back covers of the 2010- 2011 yearbooks. If you want to enter the contest, please follow the directions below.

Eligibility:

  1. Must be a current Austell Intermediate Students grade 2nd-5th.
  2. Artwork must be original, creative and neatly done.

Guidelines

1.Theme: “Austell IS…”! The theme must be illustrated in your artwork. The IS stands for Intermediate School, you complete the phrase with what you think Austell Intermediate School is. For example: Austell is …Fun!, Cool!, A great place to learn!, Awesome!, The best!, etc…

Draw a picture illustrating your phrase. Please include the theme and your phase in your picture, but NO OTHER WORDS. DO NOT write your name on the picture.

2.Please print your first and last names on the BACK of the paper, IN PENCIL. If any of this information is on the front of the paper, it will not be considered for the contest.

3.Size: Artwork must be prepared in portrait (vertical) view on 8.5” x 11” paper included. Stay in the border and leave little to no white space.

4.Medium: Use a medium such as markers, paint, or crayon that helps you create the best picture on paper. If using crayons, be sure the color is crisp and dark. Florescent markers, highlighters, or pencil can not be used.

5.Entry Form: Artwork must be submitted with a completed officially entry form and sign the Terms of Agreement.

6.Deadline: Place the original artwork with completed entry form unfolded in a large envelope and submit to office on or before Tuesday November 9, 2010. Attention to: Yearbook Committee.

7.Judging: Artwork will be judged on originality and creativity with the capability to represent the theme. Judges will be a panel of school personnel. Decisions of the judges are final.

8.Award: The wining designs will be announced at school on Friday November 12, 2010. A 1st place and 2nd place design will be chosen. The 1st place design will be on the cover and the 2nd place design will be on the back cover of the 2010-11 school yearbooks. Grade level winners will be featured on pages throughout the yearbook.

9.Number of entries: Only 1 entry per person, Please! You may even want to design a few different covers and then pick your best one to enter.

10.All entries become the property of Austell Intermediate PTA Yearbook committee and will not be returned.

Be Creative and Use Your Imagination! Do your Best Work and Be Neat!

Tips to create the best artwork to be used for the cover:

  • Make sure all words are visible. DO NOT color over words. DO trace over words with a dark marker.
  • Use RICH colors. The more color depth and contrast in your artwork, the better the cover will look. (Tip: Certain colors like navy blue and dark green do not work well when placed next to each other.)
  • Thick lines are best for outlining words and objects. If pencil lines are easily visible, we cannot use the image. (Tip: Try doing a sample picture first and then make a final draft, so that no pencil marks are visible.)
