Members reappointed to NHS Health Scotland

The Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing today announced the reappointment of two Members to the NHS Health Scotland Board.

NHS Health Scotland is responsible for the delivery of health improvement programmes to a wide variety of audiences and stakeholders working to improve Scotland's health.

Paul Stollard - brings to the board a particular interest in, and experience of, the issues affecting health at work though his roleas the former Regional Director, for Scotland and Northern England, with the Health and Safety Executive. Paul was also for many years a volunteer with the Samaritans, the listening charity for the suicidal and despairing, culminating in serving two terms as one of their National Trustees, and this has given him a deep concern for issues of emotional and mental health.

Ali Jarvis – brings to the board an ability to provide strategic direction and organisational support to achieve organisational change. Ali also brings to the board a strong understanding of and commitment to addressing the wide range of social and health issuesthat impact upon inequalityand poorhealth outcomes.

Thereappointment of Paul Stollard will be for two years and will run from April 1, 2015 to March 31, 2017. Thereappointment of Ali Jarvis will be for four years and will run from April 1, 2015 to March 31, 2019.

Thesereappointments arepart time and attract a remuneration of £8,088 for a time commitment of eight hours per week.

Paul Stollard does not hold any other ministerial appointments.

Ali Jarvis is a Council Member of the Scottish Funding Council which runs until 03/10/2015 with a time commitment of three days per month, for which she receives £11,556 per annum.

Thesereappointmentsare regulated by the Commissioner for Ethical Standards in Public Life in Scotland.

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public. Paul Stollard and Ali Jarvis have had no political activity in the last five years.
