ASSESMENT OF CONDITIONS
ON HORSE FARM VUCIJAK
Banja Luka, 2008. god.
Assesment Report:
Assoctiation for animal protection NOA visited Lipizzaner horse farm VUCIJAK in Prnjavor on 3 May 2008 around 11 AM and has made following report.
HORSES: after we visited the farm our team concluded that there are between 85-90 horses on it. Of that number there are 11 colts whose age varies from 10 days to few months. At the moment we visited the farm a small number of horses was in the stables while the rest of them was let loose to run and graze on the nearby pastures without any supervision or safety fence. As far as the condition of the horses is concerned it is more then obvious that they have been neglected and very exausted due to starvation. Almost all horses suffer from lack of food and are in poor hygiene conditions mud and dry horse excrement is on their bodies, winter hair is still hanging off the horses in spite of fact that it is month of May. Also on one of the horses we noticed an eye injury (enclosed with rest of documentation). Rest of horses is also in very bad health condition but their real condition needs to be assessed by a special veterinary team.
BUILDINGS: During our visit our team noticed serious deterioration and damages on all buildings within complex. Holes in roofs and walls, moisture and dump is present everywhere. Certain parts of building collapsed. Bad hygiene conditions and lack of certain infrastructure.

FOOD: Few boxes of compressed hay was all food that we could see at the moment while we visited the horsefarm. According to the workers, the horses exclusively get hay and sometimes when it is available grains are provided also.
FOOD PLACE
WATER: We did not notice any hydrant or water source on the farm. There are large barrels in the stables that contains water that is few days old and origine of that water is serious issue cause it is possible that it is rain water.
STAFF AT FARM: During our visit to the farm only one worker was present on the farm who was taking care of all the horses that were present on the farm at the moment.
CONCLUSION: After our visit it is clearly visible that the conditions on the farm are bad. Poor sanitary conditions could be reason of epidemic and the whole region could suffer if it happened. The horses bearly survive on the farm and it is serious issue how long will they be able to withstand in such bad conditions without proper supply of water and food. There is lack of selective breeding and it is serious problem cause it could cause the genetic mutations and destruction and dissapearance of the very important horse population that is at the farm now. All buildings on the farm complex are unsafe and keeping horses in them puts them in great danger.
