ABOUT THE TEAM

The School of Creative Industries and Digital Technologies is looking to appoint a dynamic Vocational Learner Development Coach to its media and music curriculum area. You will make a considerable contribution to learners’ vocational skill development and work closely with teaching and support teams to maximise learners’ success and achievement.

ABOUT THE ROLE

You will support the acquisition and development of vocational skills in a range of media applications and contexts including film and TV, interactive media design, film editing, TV studio and location filming and broadcast.

You will deliver skills based workshops for 1:1 or groups and will assess student progress in skill development in accordance with awarding body regulations and in consultation with delivery staff.

You will have skill and experience in a range of media broadcast and interactive media design equipment and industry related contexts. Ideally, you will have a range of skills and experience in areas such as digital video editing, filming, camera operation, TV studio, Apple Mac design packages, interactive and multimedia design and computer interactivity. You will have experience of live and location work and be skilled in supporting such events.

Ideally, you must have proven experience of working with young people and it would advantageous to have worked in a college/school/youth environment.

You will be based with the Media and Music team and support learners from this area. However, you may also work with both staff and learners from across other areas within the School as well as liaising, where appropriate, with other areas both internally and externally.

You will provide individual and group support for learning and may be involved in a range of enrichment and wider learning activities.

You will demonstrate energy, passion and enthusiasm for making a difference and have the proven ability to lead group sessions, to engage, motivate and support young people, both individually and in groups.

It is essential that the person appointed has the ability to build positive relationships, displaying excellent communication and organisational skills.

The role will require you to embed the college’s values; working with Professionalism, taking Responsibility for your actions, and giving Respect to clients and colleagues alike.

2. The Post

2.1  Main Duties and Responsibilities

a)  Deliver high quality skill based instruction and support and/or group tutorials/workshops using a variety of learning strategies, activities and resources.

b)  Prepare appropriate lesson plans (in consultation with delivery staff and informed by schemes of work) for taught sessions with groups of learners using college documentation.

c)  Carry out practical and observational assessment in line with awarding body requirements and in consultation with the relevant tutor and informed by the scheme of work.

d)  Ensure learners gain sound technical knowledge of the subject through practical workshop activities.

e)  To be responsible for the effective operation of specialist vocational workshops and studios.

f)  To be responsible for the supervision of students timetabled in the workshop and studios.

g)  To mark and assess work and to give feedback to students as required and appropriate.

h)  Work within college frameworks to monitor and assess students’ progress and provide them with regular and constructive feedback.

i)  To set and monitor individual student progress including target setting and monitoring of individual learning plans.

j)  Support learners through recording, tracking, documenting and discussion for progress of individual study.

k)  Monitor learner attendance and punctuality and support the learner as they progress through the course.

l)  To take every opportunity to develop and promote English and Maths skills where appropriate.

m)  To maintain appropriate standards of learner behaviour.

n)  To support the student induction and re-induction programmes.

o)  To provide, where appropriate, coaching and mentoring for learners who may be at risk or who are struggling to cope with their programme of study. This may include the setting of individual targets to support a successful outcome.

p)  To attend where necessary School of Learning events such as parents’ evenings, meet the tutor events, college open evenings and marketing events including school liaison visits, external events, taster visits and School of Learning performances and exhibitions.

q)  To attend appropriate School and team meetings as required and to provide appropriate feedback regarding student progress.

r)  To assist with marketing activities to promote the full range of products offered.

s)  To take responsibility for your own professional development and continually update as necessary.

2.2 Other Responsibilities

a) To uphold and promote all company policies and procedures, promoting those specifically applicable to this area of work, including the Equality & Diversity and Health & Safety policies and procedures and attend training as requested.

b) To comply with all college standards and expectations, including college learner procedures and practices and safeguarding policy and practices.

c) To keep up to date, so far as necessary, for the efficient executing of the job, with new legislation, procedures and techniques and attend relevant mandatory training.

d) To be conversant with and participate in activities and developments at college, regional and national level which are relevant to the post.

e) To present and promote an appropriate public image in representing the college group and its subsidiaries.

f) To undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required commensurate with the post.

4. Position within the College

The post-holder will be part of the School of Creative Industries and Digital Technologies and will report directly to the Curriculum Manager: Media and Music.

5. Terms & Conditions

a)  The post is offered on a Vision Business Support contract and is subject to those terms and conditions.

b)  The salary will be £21,294 per annum (Band 5).

c)  You will be entitled to 25 days leave, plus bank holidays. Up to 5 days leave can be directed for efficiency closure.

d)  You will be required to work 37 hours per week on a flexible basis.

e)  The Company operates a Scottish Widows Group Personal Pension Plan.

f)  The post holder may be located at any West Nottinghamshire College Group site and may be expected to travel as required. You will however be given reasonable notice of any change in your principal place of work and be fully consulted.
