CLASS TITLE:SENIOR RESEARCH SCIENTIST - FMRI

ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)

This is marine resource work at the Florida Marine Research Institute performing the most difficult animal or plant specimen identifications in more than one phylum; developing and testing models for the most difficult ecosystems using biological, chemical, geological, physical, and/or meteorological components to assess causal relationships; modeling the most difficult multi-species complexes for trophic, cover, and physiological aspects; or coordinating inter-agency technical policy issues.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

  • Identifies marine microorganisms, plants, and animals to the species level or lower.
  • Develops new techniques and approaches to the study of natural resources.
  • Models or otherwise analyzes natural resources and their systems.
  • Coordinates surface water improvement management programs.
  • Prepares identification or technique guides or manuals for use at different levels of expertise.
  • Acts as instructor on topic of expertise at workshops for training state personnel.
  • Conducts surveys and inventories of system or statewide natural resources using highly technical equipment, skills, or knowledge.
  • Analyzes and publishes data in referred journals or peer-reviewed books and manuals.
  • Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course of study in one of the physical or natural sciences or mathematics and five years of professional experience in one of the physical or natural sciences or mathematics; or
  • A master's degree from an accredited college or university with major course of study in one of the physical or natural sciences or mathematics and four years of professional experience as described above; or
  • A doctorate from an accredited college or university with major course of study in one of the physical or natural sciences or mathematics and two years of professional experience as described above.
