IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE AGENDA AND PUBLIC MEETING

NOTE: Below is an agenda of all items scheduled to be considered. Notification is hereby provided that items on the agenda may be taken out of the order presented, two or more agenda items may be combined for consideration, and an agenda item may be removed from the agenda or discussion relating to an item on the agenda may be delayed at any time.

In accordance with NRS 241.020(6), supporting materials that are submitted to the Associated Students of the College of Southern Nevada (ASCSN) Office of Student Life and Leadership Development will be made available in advance of the meeting as follows: 1) from the (ASCSN) Office of Student Life and Leadership Development by calling Shakira Taylor at (702) 651-4051 or emailing her at ; or, 2) by accessing the electronic version of the agenda posted on the ASCSN page of the CSN website:

1.  Public Comment (3 minute limit each speaker) Information Only

a.  Public comment will be taken during this agenda item. No action may be taken on a matter raised under this item until the matter is included on an agenda as an item on which action may be taken. Comments will be limited to three minutes per person. Persons making comment will be asked to begin by stating their name for the record and to spell their last name. The President may elect to allow additional public comment on a specific agenda item when that agenda item is being considered.

b.  In accordance with Attorney General Opinion No. 00-047, as restated in the Attorney General’s Open Meeting Law Manual, the President may prohibit comment if the content of that comment is a topic that is not relevant to, or within the authority of, ASCSN Student Government, or if the content is willfully disruptive of the meeting by being irrelevant, repetitious, slanderous, offensive, inflammatory, irrational or amounting to personal attacks or interfering with the rights of other speakers.

c.  Senator Phillips Perry states that there were approximately 600 kids during the Trunk or Treat event. Albertson and Walmart were there to participate in the event and they refilled candies. The Trunk or Treat event went great.

2.  Consent Agenda Items (5 minutes) For Possible Action

a.  Approval of the Meeting Minutes for:

i.  Senate Meeting: October 23rd, 2015

ii.  Outreach: October 23rd, 2015

iii.  By-Laws: October 23rd, 2015

iv.  Planning and Awards: October 23rd, 2015

v. Vice President Weston motions to approve item 2.

vi.  Senator Johnson seconds.

vii.  Motion passes: 14-0-0

3.  Approval of HOSA (5 minutes) For Possible Action

a.  The Senate shall deliberate and vote upon recognition and allocation of $150 seed money to the HOSA Club for meeting the minimum qualifications to receive seed money for the 2015-2016 Academic school year.

b.  Rosalia Salazar, chapter president of HOSA presents to the Senate. HOSA Future Help Professional is separate from any health science organizations in CSN. It is an international organization. They are endorsed by the US Department of Education and Nevada Department of Education. Their mission is to enhance quality healthcare. They do leadership development and career and technical student education. This organization is health based and focuses on health science. HOSA stands for Health Occupation Students of America.

c.  Senator Beltran motions to approve item 3 with funding not to exceed $150.00.

d.  Senator Gebremeskel seconds.

e.  Motion passes: 14-0-0

4.  Approval of Culinary Club (5 minutes) For Possible Action

a.  The Senate shall deliberate and vote upon recognition and allocation of $150 seed money to the Culinary Club for meeting the minimum qualifications to receive seed money for the 2015-2016 Academic school year.

b.  Samantha Armendariz from Culinary Club presents to the Senate. They participate in community service, feeding kids around the state. They fed up to 600 people in their past events. They also help students with job placements, internship and job opportunities.

c.  Vice President Weston states that the Culinary Club continues to be the leading club in terms of fundraising.

d.  Advisor Brown suggests the Senate to be in contact with Culinary Club and Arts Department for catering for the End of the Year Banquet.

e.  Ms. Armendariz states that she will talk to her advisor regarding collaborating with ASCSN.

f.  Senator Phillips-Perry motions to approve item 4 with item not to exceed $150.00.

g.  Senator Clark seconds.

h.  Senator Costa recuses herself from voting, as she is a member of this club.

i.  Motion passes: 13-0-1

5.  Approval of Psychology Club (5 Minutes) For Possible Action

a.  The Senate shall deliberate and vote upon recognition of the Psychology Club for meeting the minimum qualifications to be recognized for the 2015-2016 Academic school year.

b.  Yazmine Salas, co-president of Psychology Club presents to the Senate. She states that Psychology Club is separate from Psi Beta. The organization aims to provide free and open space for those who are interested. The goal is to bring together students and faculty to address the needs. They do service learning as well.

c.  Vice President Weston motions to approve item 5.

d.  Senator Phillips-Perry seconds.

e.  Senator Thompson recuses herself, as she is a member of this club.

f.  Motion passes: 13-0-1

6.  Approval of Psi Beta Club (5 Minutes) For Possible Action

a.  The Senate shall deliberate and vote upon recognition of the Psi Beta Club for meeting the minimum qualifications to be recognized for the 2015-2016 Academic school year.

b.  Samad Moosa from Psi Beta Club states that they are a separate club from Psychology Club. They are known for professional development for the students. They work closely with psychology club and clubs from UNLV.

c.  Secretary San Diego motions to approve item 6.

d.  Stanczak seconds

e.  Motion passes:13-0-1

f.  Point of Order: Senator Phillips-Perry leaves the room at 1:21PM.

7.  Thanksgiving Food Drive (10 minutes) For Possible Action

a.  The Senate shall deliberate and vote upon $170 for a Thanksgiving Food Drive to provide assistance to the less fortunate in the local community. This item shall be led by Senator Costa.

b.  Senator Costa states that donations from this food drive will be given to Shade Tree. A donor can get a raffle ticket for every 5 canned goods that they donate.

c.  Secretary San Diego states that when she has a chance to volunteer in Shade Tree, they told the volunteers that make-up, diapers, and socks are what they most need.

d.  Senator Costa states that they have a new program where people come in to take showers and eat at the Shade Tree.

e.  AA Meza states that the Henderson campus has a lot of hair product samples.

f.  President Romero states that we can donate whatever we have available at home that can be donated to Shade Tree.

g.  Vice President Weston states that she will email the clubs about this event.

h.  Senator Costa states that originally she wanted to do a huge event for this food drive.

i.  Treasurer Munoz states that if the event will be ongoing for multiple days, students have more opportunity to donate.

j.  Vice President Weston motions to approve item 7 with funding not to exceed $170.00.

k.  Senator Stanczak seconds.

l.  Motion passes: 14-0-0

8.  T-Shirt Design Contest Judging (20 minutes) For Possible Action

a.  The Senate shall deliberate and vote upon the winners of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places from the ASCSN T-shirt contest submission. The senate shall review the designs and vote upon their top choices. This item shall be led by Senator Clark.

b.  Steven Salaz - Colors can be changed, anything can be compromised. Confidence represents CSN. Logo can be printed through graphic design.

c.  Rachel Beckworth – presents her work tshirt design to the senate.

d.  Rachel – maximum of 4 colors for print.

e.  Secretary San Diego conducts a roll call vote:

·  Vice President Weston: T-shirt designs 1, 10, and 5

·  Secretary San Diego: T-shirt designs 1, 4, and 8

·  Treasurer Munoz: T-shirt designs 1, 3, and 4

·  Senator Costa: T-shirt designs 4, 15, and 10

·  Senator Lopez: T-shirt designs 1, 3, and 10

·  Senator Ruvalcaba: T-shirt designs 1, 10, and 12

·  Senator Thompson: T-shirt designs 2, 4, and 5

·  Senator Bowdle: T-shirt designs 1, 2, and 4

·  Senator Clark: T-shirt designs 4, 2, and 8

·  Senator Phillips-Perry: T-shirt designs 4, 5, and 12

·  Senator Stanczak: T-shirt designs 2, 4, and 5

f.  Secretary San Diego notes that the three t-shirt designs that have the most votes are design 1 by Steven Salas with nine votes (first place), design 4 by Lehi Vega with eight votes (second place), and design 5 by Danielle Lamore with seven votes (third place).

g.  Congratulations to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners!

h.  Advisor Brown states that it is possible that scholarships may have negative effect on the financial aid awards of the students.

i.  Senator Clark motions to approve design 1 by Steven Salas for 1st place, design 4 by Lehi Vega for 2nd place, and design 5 by Danielle Lamore for 3rd place.

j.  Vice President Weston seconds.

k.  Motion passes: 14-0-0

9.  Financial Guidance Center (30 minutes) Information Only

a.  Jovanni Banks shall be presenting the senate information on the Financial Guidance Center. He will talk about the importance of financial education and resources for students. He will also present the Senate with information about possibly collaborating together to provide scholarship funds.

b.  Jovanni Banks, Lina Maqueda and Letisia Rodriguez from Financial Guidance Center presents before the Senate. The organization provides opportunity to start your pathway to financial stability. They have free one-on-one counseling. They teach participants financial literacy, such as how to budget and learning what credit is. They provide matching grant called Assets for Independent. They give a grant of $4,500 if participant is able to save $500 over the course of 6 months.

c.  Students bring their tuition statements and a document that states their book requirements and then they get the check. The $4,500 grant has to be used together.

d.  Students have to accumulate the $500 in 6 months.

e.  Jovanni Banks recommends to have this organization have tables during our events.

10.  Phi Theta Kappa Honors in Action (10 minutes) Information Only

a.  The President of Phi Theta Kappa, the honor society for 2 year colleges, shall present to the Senate their annual project Honors in Action. This year’s project focuses on the arts.

11.  ASCSN Senate Report (15 minutes) Information Only

a.  Executive Board Officers Reports

i.  President’s Report

·  President Romero states that there is a Salvation Army volunteer opportunity for ASCSN and CSN Serves.

·  She also states that CSN is going through budget cuts as an institution.

ii.  Vice President’s Report

·  Vice President Weston lists down the clubs who are not in compliance of the bylaws.

·  So far, there are 13 submissions for the Writing Contest. Contest goes until November 21st.

iii. Secretary’s Report

·  Secretary San Diego has not reports at this time.

iv.  Treasurer’s Report

·  The only event that was approved during our meetings that requires funding is the Thanksgiving Food Drive.

b.  Committee Chair Reports

i.  Planning and Awards Chair, Senator Bowdle states that everything is going well with Winterversity. The issue regarding the organizations involved is settled. The Winterversity will be from 10am to 4pm including breakdown and set up time. The Santa costume is ready as well.

ii.  We will be starting to plan for the banquet. They spoke with the lady from culinary club to collaborate with them for the End of the Year Banquet

iii.  Outreach Chair, Senator Clark reminds the Senate to do classroom presentation. She also states to keep advertising the Writing Contest.

c.  Campus Reports

i.  West Charleston: Senator Johnson states that the ping pong tournament event at the Charleston campus went really good. We had a lot of participants. The halloween scavenger hunt went great as well. West Charleston Senators have Meet and Greet event scheduled for November 17th.

ii.  Cheyenne: Senator Costa states that the Halloween Scavenger Hunt went really well. Popcorn day on Thursday was great as well. They had about 4-5 sign-in sheets full of signatures. Cheyenne Campus needs more popcorn bags.
