PRESS RELEASE - Ottawa welcomes back Larisa Sembaliuk Cheladyn May 14 & 15, 2011

Accomplished Canadian artist Larisa Sembaliuk Cheladyn returns to Ottawa May 14-15 with an exciting art show and sale, featuring her new works Poppies from my Palette. The exhibit will take place at the Ukrainian Hall, 1000 Byron Ave. from 3pm to 9pm on Saturday, May 14 and from noon to 5pm on Sunday, May 15, with the artist in attendance. Official opening of the exhibit by the artist takes place at 5pm on Saturday, May 14 followed by a reception.

Asan artist, Larisa’s preferred medium is water colour. The bold and colourful work she produces demonstrates a unique artistic style that has enabled her to enjoy a busy professional life. She dedicates herself to creating commissioned works as well as producing theme based collections. Major exhibits include: Flowers of the Americas (1996), Flowers of the Bible (2000), and Celebrating Women (2005) and Dance Me (2008).

Larisa’s dramatic imagery, combining reflections of relevant historical moments, environmental beauty and sensitivity, cultural influences and identities with poignant social statements, has brought her international attention and acclaim. Her works can be found in collections across Canada, throughout South America, Australia and Europe.

One of Larisa’s latest collections, Dance Me..., inspired by the works of Leonard Cohen, represents a new creative direction that embraces an exciting collaboration between herself and other artists from cultural communities, particularly choreographers, dancers, and animators. The amazing energy and imagery provided by Cohen has added a unique vibrancy to Larisa’s paintings, breathing them tolife from new, innovative perspectives.

Larisa returns to OttawaMay 14th and 15th, 2011, withher new artistic pieces, along with prints from her Flowers of the Bible and Celebrating Women exhibits.This exhibit will raise funds in support of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Ottawa.
