Notes from the Pastor

23 "Look, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel," which means, "God is with us." (Matthew1:23NRS)

This month is Advent season. Advent is the period preceding the Christmas season. What does it mean, the word “Advent” is derived from the Latin word adventus, the meaning of whichis “coming.” During the Advent season, Christians prepare for the celebration of the baby Jesus.

Moreover, the meaning of Advent presents a new beginning as God’s people wait for the return of Christ within the glory and in hope. On the other hand, if you are waiting for something to happen in your life, probably, nothing will happen because you don’t take the initiative and action. During Advent season, we can begin a new journey or a new life. We have to move one step first and then another step would be following. Please, look at Jesus Christ. He shows us what he made. We have to start something and carry it out for our lovely family, friends and neighbors with love and peace. But, the something that should be present is faith, love, and hope. It is the direction of the new beginning and of our lives. As we are Christians, let us take the first step with love and grace.

Blessings

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMINDER

Although we hope to have worship every Sunday during this winter, there may be mornings when the weather may not allow us to meet. Again this winter on mornings when ice or snow may limit our ability to travel safely, I will call the Chairpersons of the Administrative Counsels at 7:30 a.m. to make a decision on whether we should have worship that morning. Once that decision is made, we call the cancellation hot line at KOAM-TV (Channel 7 on cable) and Fox 14 TV (Channel 14) to notify you if we will hold services. I will also place a message on the church answering machine at Arma UMC (620-347-8336) that will notify you whether we will hold services.

SPECIAL EVENTS DURING THE CHRISTMAS SEASON

Community Christmas Cantata

Everyone is welcome to help celebrate the birth of Christ through the music of the Community Christmas Cantata “Morning Star”. It is going to be held this year at the St. Joseph Catholic Church on December 6 at 6:00 p.m. Be sure to come and support our church and community choir as we are very fortunate to have so many talented singers and instrumentalists donating their time to this project. Refreshments will be served in the church hall following the performance.

One of the important features of the Cantata is that the collection from that event goes toward providing holiday baskets for area families in need – and the need is even greater this year. Come early to be sure you get a great seat and a festive start to the Christmas Season!

Christmas Eve Services Scheduled

Christmas Eve Service at the Grace United Methodist Church is scheduled for

6:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 24th.
