Foster Care Policy & Guidelines
FOSTER CARE POLICY:
1.APFAAR will schedule spayed or neuter appointments for foster animals.
.
2.APFAAR will maintain an information file on all foster animals. These files will include pertinent information on each individual animal including a physical description of the animal, health records and acquisition information.
3.APFAAR maintains the ownership of any and all animals placed as a foster pet until such time the animal has been formally adopted.
4.Veterinary care shall not be rendered to any APFAAR animals without prior authorization by an Officer of the organization. In the event of a life-threatening emergency, veterinary attention should be sought immediately. Documentation from a licensed veterinary doctor shall be submitted to APFAAR prior to any reimbursement of veterinary expenses.
5.Any veterinary care or attention required for an APFAAR foster animal due to neglect or disregard of APFAAR policy will be the responsibility of the foster person.
6.APFAAR reserves the right to inspect any and all foster animals while in foster care.
7.APFAAR is responsible for the adoption and placement of all APFAAR animals. While the input and judgment of the foster person is invaluable to the placement of foster animals, the decisions concerning permanent placement will be at the discretion of APFAAR.
8.APFAAR assumes no responsibility or liability for damages caused by a foster animal. This includes injury to a resident dog, a person, or damage to property.
9.The foster home and property will be inspected by an APFAAR authorized member prior to acceptance into the APFAAR foster program. Additional inspections may be made at anytime while you participate in our foster care program, if needed.

FOSTER CARE GUIDELINES
1.The foster animal will be kept as an indoor family pet while in the care of the foster person.
2.The foster dog will be either crated or kept in a safe indoor area (depending upon the dog) suitable to the size of the dog during those periods of time when the foster person is not available to supervise the actions of the dog.
3.The foster animal will be fed daily and in such amounts as to maintain ideal body weight.
4.The foster animal will have access to fresh water.
5.The foster dog will always be exercised on lead (leash) or in a completely secure fenced area. Foster cats will be indoor only.
6.The foster animal will receive care and personal attention so as to develop social skills and good house manners.
7.The foster animal will be supervised while interacting with any and all animals while in the care of the foster person(s).
8.The foster animal will be supervised while interacting with any and all children while in the care of the foster person(s).
9.The foster animal will receive any necessary veterinary care consistent with the APFAAR policies (see items 4 & 5 under Foster Care Policy).
10. The foster animal will wear, at all times, a collar with appropriate identification tags.
11. The foster person(s) will immediately notify APFAAR should any problems arise in connection with the APFAAR foster animal including, but not limited to health or behavioral concerns, loss or theft of the animal.
