** PLEASE practice only on the TEST LoggerStation. The TEST version has a GREEN background, the LIVE version has a BLUE background.

Quick Primer

  1. The application LoggerStation contains two facilities. The one used by loggers at the field is called FieldStation. The one used by the treasurer for billing from the back office is called... well... BackOffice. This help file is written primarily for FieldStation.
  2. There are two panels. The left panel is the Navigation (Nav) Panel. Click a link there and a page will show up in the Main Panel to the right where you will do yourwork.
  3. In LoggerStation, you log "Flights". A Flight is like a row of the old logger form: pilot, optional second pilot (or student or passenger), glider, towpilot, towplane, takeoff and landing times, 'needs instruction', etc.
  4. In LoggerStation, each flight has an ID. Note the flight ID when referring to a particular flight. To Modify a flight, you will need to specify its ID. (For you psychology types, ID is pronounced EyeDee, not id.)
  5. A Flight can be in one of three states: Gridded, Aloft, and Completed. When a Flight is signed up (Sign Up link) and has neither a takeoff nor landing time, itis Gridded. When a Flight has takeoff (but no landing) time, it is Aloft. And, obviously, when it has a takeoff and landing time it is Completed. Use the ShowGrid/Aloft/Completed links to show the Flights in those respective stages. By entering a time in the appropriate field, the Flight can be moved to the nextstate.
  6. Each page does a lot of error checking. If it has problems with what you’ve entered, it complains with an error message at the top of the page. It usually begins with something like “ERROR”. Fix the complaints and try again.
  7. The Nav Panel is separated into functional groups: Logging, Juniors, Show Data. If you don’t know what those things mean, click on the links and you’ll see. If you still don’t know what they mean, apply for the SFO job. Or the board position referred to as Member at Large.
  8. Each functional group has its links arranged in approximate order of use. Sign-up, for example, comes before Show Grid which comes before Show Aloft, etc.
  9. Next to many of the controls or text boxes are hints in grey text. Read them!
  10. The member making each new entry and modification is recorded along with the date and time. Make sure you logout when turning the FieldStation over to somebody else let you get the credit for their screw ups. (See the Members link: we know where you live.)
  11. At the end of the day, use the Close Day link to finish up.
