Dear Applicant:
The Ocean County Young Republican Organization is pleased to announce the Joseph Y. M. Lorenc Memorial Scholarship. Joe devoted his life to civic service, through political, community and church organizations. Joe attended the United States Coast Guard Academy and received an A.S. from Ocean County College. He was an Eagle Scout, Chairman of the Lakewood Township Republican Committee, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. The OCYRO is proud to honor Joe’s memory and award one (1) scholarship in the amount of $1000.00 to a Young Republican residing in Ocean County who represents the memory of Joseph Y.M. Lorenc and his tireless efforts and commitment to his community.
The applicant must be registered as a Republican, or, if under the age of eighteen (18), the dependent or child of a registered Republican. The applicant must be an Ocean County resident, and anticipate registration in post-secondary courses, as a full time student, for the Fall 2012 semester (proof of same will be required prior to presentation of the funds).
As part of the application, the applicant shall present two (2) letters of recommendation, inclusive of the name and phone number of the reference. One reference is to be on an academic basis, the other on a civic basis. No family members will be accepted as a reference.
In addition, the applicant is requested to submit a five hundred (500) word essay. This essay shall be typed, not handwritten. This year’s essay topic is:
What do you believe is the most important issue facing the future of the United States of America and if you were President what would you do to address this issue?
