Although the Red Wolf is a gentle animal it is being over hunted for its fur and its danger to livestock. Belonging to the dog family the Red wolf has a grayish, reddish coat of fur. Not only does the Red Wolf have balance it also has speed which helps it catch animals like rodents, deer, carrion, and other small mammals.

Living in the uplands, bottomland forest, and swamps, the Canus rufus, Red Wolf, needs our help now. The Red Wolf lives in southern Texas and in western Louisiana. After the Red Wolf mates in the winter the female carries the babies in her stomach for sixty-three days. Finally the pups will be born in groups of one to eleven pups at a time. When they are first born the pups weigh one pound and are helpless, blind, and deaf. For three weeks the pups feed on their mother’s milk and after three weeks they start to eat meat. Then the male teaches the little ones how to hunt. Once two months old the pups leave their dens and go to start their own den. A lot is being done for the Red Wolf and it has a good chance of surviving. You can find release sights in South Carolina, Florida, Illinois, and North Carolina. At the release sights experts breed the Red Wolf and then set them free.

Because the Red Wolf is a very unusual animal, many people want to learn more about it. One very interesting fact about the Red Wolf is that howling is a ritual. Another is that its tail can be twelve to sixteen and one half inches long. The reason the tail is that long is because it gives the wolf more balance. The Red Wolf also can kill an animal twice its size. I think that if humans would learn more about the Red Wolf it would not be hunted so much.
