Census Night 9th August.

Watch out for a package in your letterbox addressed to the householder. It’s not junk mail!!!! It will contain your census forms which can and should be if possible lodged online on the night of August 9th or before if you know exactly whom will be in your home that night. REMEMBER if is compulsory to complete the paperwork. If you don’t want a visit for the census collector, best to complete the documents and lodge online before midnight 9th August.

After hours contractors contact details

Owner Occupiers should be aware that repairs within their lot are the responsibility of the property owner and not the Body Corporate. You are always welcome to use your own contractors, but need to be aware that any work being done that might involve use of common area by the contractor requires the contractor to be registered with the Body Corporate and to be supplied with our Contractor Induction paperwork. All contractors on site need to sign in with the Onsite Manager as part of our Work Place Health and Safety Standards.

Afterhours, you may need to contact an electrician, plumber or locksmith. It is probably more cost effective for you if you use a contract whom is familiar with the site, and knows where to locate switch boxes, mains etc in the building. Please note that the onsite manager should only be contacted after hours in an emergency, and should only be needed if the problem is on common property.

Please keep these numbers somewhere handy.

Electrician: Pearson Sellwood 0418740639

Plumber: Pipemaster Plumbing DAVE 0410567351

Locksmith: Amalgamated Locksmiths 32527872

Fire Contractor: MFE Glenn 0413958805

Police: Emergency 000

Reporting suspicious behaviour: Brook St Police Station 37375757.

Note:

The Onsite Management Office hours are 9.00AM to 5.00PM Monday to Friday

And by appointment on Saturday between 9.00AM and 3.30PM.

After hours lock outs are not an emergency.

Fire Safety

It is important that everyone is aware of the fire evacuation procedures and be conscious of the safety of your neighbours, especially those whom are less mobile or impaired. There is a lot of information on the internet on what to do in the case of fire, including on the Queensland Fire & Emergency Services Site. We should each take the time to acquaint ourselves on fire procedures and think ahead in case of an alarm. Each household should have their personal evacuation plan thought out and rehearsed in case of an emergency. What would you take with you if you had the opportunity to take it? Do you know how many steps it is to the nearest fire escape?

I recently learnt that carbon monoxide is colourless and odourless. A few breaths and you are unconscious and in no longer than three minutes you are dead. Crawling below the smoke line will buy you some time, but not much. Better to be away from the fire and out of harm’s way.

Mobility impaired persons should be moved to a fire stairwell but you should not attempt to move that person down the stairwell. It is your role to let the fire warden know that a mobility impaired person is waiting on a particular level in the stairwell. The fire stairs in Evelyn Street are designed to be safe for up to 3 hours. It should take only 15 minutes for the fire services to reach those in the stairwell.

The RACE acronym is one way to help us think as clearly as possible if a fire starts in our vicinity.

Eat your way around Brisbane’s newest hatted restaurants from the Brisbane Times 2017 Good Food Guide Awards
Ready your forks and loosen your belts! The Brisbane Times 2017 Good Food Guide was released this week.
The Guide showcases the best places to eat and drink in Queensland with more than 300 independent reviews, as well as the hats and the winners of Vittoria Coffee Restaurant of the Year, Citi Chef of the Year and Best New Restaurant categories.
It’s no surprise that many of the ‘hatted’ restaurants are in the Teneriffe, New Farm-Valley & Newstead area, but it’s great to see the accolades where due.
