Grinnell-in-London Programme Assistant

Grinnell College, a highly selective residential liberal arts college that enrolls 1500 students who come from every state and 50 countries around the world, seeks to fill the position of Programme Assistant for its off-campus study programme in London, England. The Programme Assistant reports to the Resident Director and is responsible for day-to-day operational and administrative support. This is a part-time position, for four months each year.

Responsibilities:

  • Under general direction, the assistant will usually provide administrative support to the Director for 3.5 hours per day, 4 days per week, late-August through mid-December, with additional hours needed during the first and final weeks of the programme.
  • The assistant’s primary responsibilities will be to supportthe day-to-day running of the programme office, including preparation of orientation materials, maintenance of information and student records systems, photocopying, filing, archiving, orderingsupplies, and other general office management duties.
  • The assistant will make practical arrangements for academic courses and their co-curricular activities, including diverse field trips in and outside London. He/she will be expected to maintain regular email contact with students and faculty about programme details.
  • This position requires the ability to exercise independent judgment, adhere to policies and procedures on confidentiality, and employ basic reasoning skills.
  • The assistant should also be available to accompany overnight field trips on occasional weekends, if required, to supervise practical arrangements.

Qualifications: Education to degree-level standard.The position requires a friendly, enthusiastic, mature, and culturally sensitive person with strong organizational and time-management skills. The candidate must have administrative experience and excellent IT proficiency. Experience (either personal or professional) with international education is desirable, along with an understanding of US and UK university culture. Knowledge of and enthusiasm for London is also highly desirable.

Remuneration: This is a waged position and will be paid at an hourly rate of £15.00 per hour. PAYE is operated and tax and National Insurance deductions will be made.
