A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE REBECCA AND HARRY DALTON OF ROCK HILL FOR THEIR DEDICATION AND OUTSTANDING RECORD OF VOLUNTEER SERVICE AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES TO THEM IN ALL THEIR FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, Rebecca H. Dalton, `Becca, was born in Charlotte, North Carolina and graduated from Columbus High School in Columbus, Georgia in 1946 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Childhood Development from the University of North Carolina - Greensboro in 1950; and

Whereas, Harry M. Dalton was born in Charlotte, North Carolina and graduated high school from McCallie School in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Textile Management from North Carolina State University in 1950 and his Masters degree in History from Winthrop University in 1986; and

Whereas, `Becca and Harry Dalton were married in 1950 in Atlanta, Georgia and together they are the proud parents of four children and two grandchildren; and

Whereas, `Becca and Harry Dalton have been residents of South Carolina for 54 years and have been lifetime members of the Sierra Club since 1975; and

Whereas, `Becca Dalton has been exceptionally active in numerous professional and community organizations including the American Red Cross, where she was a recipient of the Clara Barton Award; the Museum of York County, where she was a docent and volunteer for twenty years; and the National Advisory Council of Sierra Club Foundation; and

Whereas, `Becca Dalton has received numerous awards including a Lifetime Service Award from United Methodist Women and the Sierra Club Centennial Campaign Award; and

Whereas, `Becca Dalton has been active in her church as a kindergarten teacher and leader, nursery worker, and women’s circle leader; and

Whereas, `Becca Dalton was active with Henry’s Knob Sierra Group’s newsletter distribution for ten years and is a current member of the National Advisory Council of Sierra Club Foundation; and

Whereas, Harry Dalton was employed from 1950-1955 with J.P. Stevens and Burlington Industries and from 1955-1992 with Caraustar Industries, where he retired as President; and

Whereas, Harry Dalton has also been active in numerous professional and community organizations including the Composite Can and Tube Association where he served as Director for ten years and as President for two years; and

Whereas, Mr. Dalton has been dedicated to his church as a past lay leader, trustee, and chair of the Administrative Board and a church youth leader and Sunday School teacher for ten years; and

Whereas, as an active member of the Sierra Club, Mr. Dalton has and is serving the Sierra Club in a number of capacities, including Chapter Fundraising Chair for twenty years, Chair of Henry’s Knob Group and the South Carolina Chapter, Chair and member of several national committees, past delegate from South Carolina to the club’s National Council, past trustee and President of the Sierra Club Foundation, current member of the National Advisory Council of Sierra Club Foundation, Co-Chair of Sierra Club Centennial Campaign, Co-Recipient with `Becca for the Centennial Campaign Award, and a recipient of the William Colby Award and the Richard Leonard Award, both national awards; and

Whereas, Mr. Dalton’s current involvement in other organizations in the community include Nation Ford Land Trust, Conservation Voters of South Carolina, City of Rock Hill “Roundtable”, and the Campaign Steering Committee for York County Museums; and

Whereas, Mr. Dalton has served in many leadership roles in South Carolina as a trustee of Claflin College, president and board member of the Rock Hill YMCA, president and board member of Keystone Substance Abuse, director of Rock Hill Chamber of Commerce where he received the 1993 Business Person of the Year and the 2004 Life Time Business Service Award, trustee of the Museum of York County, trustee of the York County Community Foundation, president and director of the Palmetto Conservation Foundation, and member of Governor Riley’s Environmental Council; and

Whereas, the strength of our communities depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of people like `Becca and Harry Dalton who use their considerable talents and resources to serve others; and

Whereas, the members of the Senate are pleased to have this opportunity to recognize `Becca and Harry Dalton for their accomplishments which have contributed immeasurably to the people and future of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, recognize Rebecca and Harry Dalton of Rock Hill for their dedication and outstanding record of volunteer service and to extend best wishes to them in all their future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Rebecca and Harry Dalton.
