A Self-Assessment for Prioritizing Initial Actions to Responding to Resistance

Tool: Have You? Checklist

What

A self-assessment for prioritizing initial actions to responding to resistance.

Why

Change-capable leaders create conditions that facilitate change acceptance and commitment. The practices covered in this learning session work together to create those conditions. Accountable leaders start responding to resistance by self-assessing what they have or haven't done—or what they might need to do again—to facilitate change acceptance and commitment.

How

  1. 1.Identify an individual or group showing signs of resistance to change.

Diagnose the situation by reviewing the checklist. Mark the boxes to note whether the item is something you have done, have not done, or have done and want to revisit.

Have you: / Yes / No / Revisit
Taken steps to expand awareness of the business realities driving the change?
Spotlighted current successes that might help the individual/group understand and embrace the change?
Engaged the energy and enthusiasm of early adopters?
Identified and leveraged the strengths of those involved in or impacted by the change?
Treated mistakes and failure as a natural—and acceptable—outcome of experimentation?
Involved the individual or group in the change in ways that are important and effective?
Confronted and addressed your own reactions to, or concerns about, the change?
