A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in loving memory and honor of Buford Thomas Blakeman.

With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to Buford Thomas Blakeman, and we pause in silent reverence for his soul.

WHEREAS, Buford Thomas Blakeman was born on October 12, 1929, a native of Wilmore, Jessamine County, Kentucky, and he traversed these earthly bounds on March 11, 2002; and

WHEREAS, Buford Thomas Blakeman was the loving son of the late Buford and Mary Heddleston Blakeman; he was the devoted husband of fifty-one years to Ruby Kelley Blakeman; he was the loving brother of Roberta Blakeman Fishbeck and her husband, the Reverend Royal Fishbeck of South Glen Falls, New York; and he was a loving uncle to his nephew and niece, Ronald and Ruth Ann Fishbeck; and

WHEREAS, Buford Thomas Blakeman served his country with pride and distinction in the United States Air Force; he was employed by the United States Postal Service for thirty-nine years, and served as the postmaster in Wilmore; and

WHEREAS, Buford Thomas Blakeman was an active and involved citizen in the Jessamine County community where he was a member of the Lions Club, serving as a member of District 43-C and the Kentucky Lions Eye Foundation, and he was also a member of the Kentucky Lions Hall of Fame, and served as governor of the Lions from 1993-94; and he was the recent recipient of the International President's Award, the second highest honor in Lionism; and

WHEREAS, Buford Thomas Blakeman was a devout member of the Wilmore United Methodist Church where he held numerous offices, including chairman of the trustees, and where his funeral services were held on March 8, 2002, with burial in the Lexington Cemetery; and

WHEREAS, the passing of Buford Thomas Blakeman has left a void that cannot be filled, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate does hereby express its profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of Buford Thomas Blakeman, and extends to his family and friends its most heartfelt sympathy.

Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Buford Thomas Blakeman.

Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mrs. Ruby Kelley Blakeman, 100 Hunters Circle, Wilmore, Kentucky 40390.
