Work of the London SCN in respect to Paediatric Asthma

London-wide Asthma work

The London Respiratory Network (LRN) came into being in September 2013 with the aim of improving the outcomes and experience of all Londoners living with chronic lung disease, and illness as a result of tobacco dependence, including asthma, by supporting colleagues to commission and deliver the highest value respiratory care.

The London Strategic Clinical Network (SCN) for Children and Young People (CYP) also has asthma as one of its key priority areas of work for 2014-16 - asthma is estimated to affect over 240,000 children in London[1].

The London Respiratory Network and CYP Asthma Network are working together to improve the care and outcomes for Londoners of all ages who are living with asthma.

We are doing this by building collective clinical leadership and by working with Clinical Commissioning Groups and Local Authorities in London, specialist commissioners, providers, voluntary sector organisations, in particular, Asthma UK and the British Lung Foundation, and children, young people and adults living with asthma and parents and carers.

We have produced a joint response to the National Review of Asthma Deaths to focus our work with the aim of reducing avoidable deaths and harm from asthma and reducing unwarranted variation.
