JOB TITLE:STEM Centre Manager / Curriculum Area and Site
STEM and Applied Science plus additional responsibility for AMS / POST REF: RQ498

Curriculum staff in assigned area and co-ordination of STEM Centre activities with business support/other relevant curriculum area managers. / JOB FAMILY: Leadership & Management

HSP RANGE: H39-H44SALARY RANGE: £38,471 - £ 44,576 pa
JOB PURPOSE:
To manage the curriculum provision within a defined area achieving annual targets for
1) Finances - learner numbers and income
2) Expenditure- staff utilisation, staff planning and non-staff costs; and
3) Quality - success and progression rates
To ensure that teaching is undertaken effectively, including cover where necessary.
To ensure all quality assurance procedures and systems are effectively implemented within the area of responsibility.
To co-ordinate the STEM Centre activities in consultation with the relevant business support/other faculty area managers to ensure the smooth operation of the STEM Centre. To be the Health and safety representative for the STEM Centre and report to the College’s Health and Safety Committee. Comply with all College policies and procedures and maintain compliance within the area of responsibility in particular with regards to performance management.
In pursuance of the College’s mission and vision, assist in achieving the strategic objectives and outcomes of the College.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Planning and business growth
1 To actively manage the curriculum area assigned, achieving continuous improvement with respect to:
a) Quality – Success and Progression rates;
b) Finances – Student recruitment, retention, staff utilisation, mix of staff and non-staff resources;
c) Active performance management of staff and succession planning.
2 To plan the operations of the STEM Centre with the relevant business support/curriculum faculty managers as appropriate. To be the health and safety representative for the STEM Centre and report to the College’s Health and Safety Committee. To work with the Deputy Principal and Director of Estates and Facilities to plan capital works.
Quality Assurance
3 To have a strong commitment to improving the quality of delivery and outcomes within the curriculum area assigned.
4 To deliver high quality outcomes for learners in line with the Common Inspection Framework, the College’s quality and business planning cycles, effective self-assessment and course evaluation and review, and ensure that a high commitment to quality is embedded throughout the staff within the area.
5 To actively manage and address areas of poor performance either at course or staff level including performance management and curriculum development.
6 To be responsible for ensuring that learner and employer voice activities, including surveys and forums, are embedded and actioned across the area.
7 Resolve escalated issues with validating bodies, external verifiers and moderators to ensure the highest standards are maintained in the area of responsibility.
8 Enact a positive commitment to inclusive learning and development of appropriate progression pathways for learners.
9 Prepare reports and attend meetings as appropriate for the College committees and other internal and external meetings.
Performance management
10 Manage curriculum development and programme planning in line with College and regional objectives. To actively manage and address areas of inefficiency within the faculty in line with College procedures.
11 Line manage and develop curriculum staff within the designated curriculum area. To actively monitor, manage and develop teaching practice within the area including undertaking lesson observations, learning walks and learning talks.
12 To performance manage staff members assigned in line with College policies, in particular sickness, capability and disciplinary policies.
13 Comply with the College’s budget delegation principles and effectively manage delegated resources including staff utilisation, budgets, class sizes and accommodation.
14 To ensure the effective timetabling of staff, courses and rooms in order to create efficiency of delivery of the curriculum offered within the programme area.
15 Effectively lead teams through the implementation of HR policies and procedures.
16 Contribute to the recruitment, selection and induction of staff, ensuring all staff are appraised and set meaningful developmental targets, linked to business development.
