This qualification was republished in January 2018 to extend the last date for enrolment from 31 December 2017 to 31 December 2018and extend the last date of assessment to 31 December 2020.
This qualification has been reviewed and replaced by the New Zealand Diploma in Leather Processing (Level 5) [Ref: 2494].

It is recommended that candidates currently enrolled in this qualification will be unable to complete the qualification by the 31 December 2020transfer to the replacement qualification listed above.
This qualification contains expiring unit standards for which replacement unit standards have now been registered. For the purposes of this qualification, people who have gained credit for the replacement unit standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the expiring unit standards.

Purpose
This qualification recognises that the holder has a detailed knowledge and understanding of the technology and relevant science related to the various stages of leather making. It includes standards 8383, 8384, 8385, 8387, 8388 and 8390 from the National Certificate in Leather Manufacture Technology (Introductory) (Level 3) available with Merit [Ref: 0419].
Acquisition of the advanced qualification is evidence that the holder understands the principles and operational detail associated with the different production stages required for the manufacture of different types of leather.
The qualification is available at the Merit level according to the level of achievement of the standards.
The qualification will provide a basis for developing technical control over leather making processes and an ability to restructure processes and procedures and evaluate the results of processes and procedures.

Requirements for Award of Qualification
Award of NQF QualificationsCredit gained for a standard may be used only once to meet the requirements of this qualification.
Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the purpose of award. The table of mutually exclusive standards is provided in section 7 of the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) Rules and Procedures publications available at http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/ncea/acrp/index.html.
Reviewed standards that continue to recognise the same overall outcome are registered as new versions and retain their identification number (ID). Any version of a standard with the same ID may be used to meet qualification requirements that list the ID and/or that specify the past or current classification of the standard.

The qualification with Merit will be awarded to people who meet all of the above requirements and who achieve Merit in a minimum of four unit standards (please note that unit standard 8388 is not available for Merit achievement).

Candidates working towards any of the previous versions of the qualification may complete the requirements for that version or transfer their results to this version of the qualification.
It is anticipated that no existing candidates will be disadvantaged by these transition arrangements. However, anyone who feels that they have been disadvantaged may appeal to the NZITO who will consider appeals on a case by case basis.
All versions of this qualification will be recognised by the New Zealand Industry Training Organisation.

Version 3 was issued to reflect the change of standard setting body responsibility from the Leather Industry Training Organisation to the New Zealand Industry Training Organisation.
Version 2 was issued to take account of the review of the Leather Manufacturing standards and the availability of Merit.

This certificate will display the logos of NZQA, the New Zealand Industry Training Organisation and the accredited organisation.

Quality Management Systems
Providers and Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by a recognised Quality Assurance Body before they can register credits from assessment against standards. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards. Accreditation requirements and the moderation system are outlined in the associated Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP) for each standard.
