May 2009 to present, 25 hours a week, Unlicensed Psychotherapist

· The Offenders Program at Aurora Mental Health Center provides services to individuals referred by probation departments and courts.

· Currently, I conduct individual therapy and co-facilitate groups with domestic violence offenders, sexual offenders, and substance abusers. These individual and group sessions focus primarily on thoughts, behaviors, actions, life skills, victim empathy, prevention, and self-care with the goal of creating a safer community.

· I also conduct initial intake assessments, psychosexual evaluations, and mental health evaluations and write the reports for probation officers, therapists, and courts.

· I determine treatment plans, including recommendations for substance abuse treatment, and provide case management.

A. B. Counseling, Lakewood, Colorado

September 2008 to June 2009, 15 hours a week, Graduate Student Internship

· A. B. Counseling is an approved outpatient treatment agency that offers Level II Education and Therapy, Relapse Prevention, Cognitive Therapy, Anger Management, Domestic Violence Groups and Victim Advocacy.

· At this facility, I conducted individual therapy with a focus on anger management. I also co-facilitated and led male and female cognitive and domestic violence groups where we focused treatment on thoughts, beliefs, actions, self-worth, reducing substance abuse, risk factors to re-offend, reducing suicide ideation, prevention, victim empathy, and effective and healthy ways to communicate and solve personal conflicts using a cognitive behavioral approach to treatment.

· I also determined treatment plans and wrote monthly notes to probation officers, parole officers, or caseworkers.

· I was one of the agency’s victim advocates, and I contacted the victims each month to check-in and provide them with appropriate resources or crisis intervention.

MacArthur Foundation Research Grant, Dr. Lavita Nadkarni, Denver, Colorado

September 2008 to June 2009, 5 hours a week, Researcher and Presenter

· I researched and presented on the topics of adolescent suicide and vicarious trauma to the Denver Juvenile Probation Department. Through these trainings, the probation officers were educated and given resources in order to provide better services to their clients and to themselves.

Dr. Rick L. May, Treatment and Evaluation Services, Aurora, Colorado

September 2007 to June 2008, 13 hours a week, Graduate Student Internship

· Treatment and Evaluation Services (TES) is an adult and adolescent sexual offender agency that treats adjudicated and convicted offenders.

· Through this placement, I conducted individual therapy with six sexual offenders and two victims, administered and scored psychological tests and interpreted the results, led study hall for adolescent offenders who did not complete their workbook assignments, conducted initial assessments, wrote psychosexual evaluations, and helped to identify appropriate treatment plans. I also co-facilitated sexual offender groups where we focused on risk factors, daily stressors, and the management of appropriate sexual boundaries and deviant arousal.

· I worked on a research project to inform middle school teachers of appropriate boundaries with their students and healthy sexuality at the middle school age level.

· I am certified to administer and interpret the Abel Assessment of Sexual Interest-2 (AASI-2).

Dr. Anouk Scheres’ Research Lab, Tucson, Arizona

August 2006 to May 2007, 9 hours a week, Research Assistant for children with ADHD

· I administered and scored questionnaires and psychological tests to children between the ages of seven to seventeen. Following completion of the tests, I entered data and analyzed the results.

Dr. Nancy Eldredge’s Counseling Office, Tucson, Arizona

January 2006 to May 2007, 9 hours a week, Research and Office Assistant

· Throughout my work experience, I scored patients’ psychological tests, researched various topics for professional lectures, and generated PowerPoint presentations on the topics of women with stress and effective ways to counsel deaf patients. I also became the office secretary and handled paperwork, sorted mail, scheduled appointments, and helped to organize filing cabinets. At times, I would also use my sign language skills with patients.

Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections, Mesa, Arizona

May 2006 to August 2006, 40 hours a week, Psychology Internship

· I wrote and revised the Mesa Parole Office program, called Fresh Start. This program was designed to help youths learn structure, advance in education, learn life skills, and serve as a viable support system. The purpose of the Fresh Start Program is to allow the opportunity for individuals to transition from secure care to living back in the community. I also tutored English and Math to a youth diagnosed with Conduct Disorder and to a sex offender, counseled youths, and researched effective activities for delinquent juveniles.

DOVE: Advocacy Services for Abused Deaf Women and Children, Denver, Colorado

· I contacted agencies, using the video relay service, and scheduled presentations that covered information on Deaf culture and what people should do if a deaf client comes to their facility.

· Through this program, I taught basic cheerleading skills to children between the ages of seven to nine and exposed them to the university environment.
