“THE ART OF PINK” TRANSFORMS THE PENINSULA CHICAGO THIS OCTOBER WITH PINK-THEMED ART, DINING AND SPECIAL EVENTS TO SUPPORT

THE GLOBAL BREAST CANCER AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

Guests will enjoy an art installation by Choi Jeong Hwa,

afternoon teas and floral decorations, plus a charitable pink art auction

and extra pink-tinted treats and surprises

The Peninsula Chicago is again thinking pink for a purpose this October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Marking its fifth anniversary in 2015, the annual Peninsula in Pink campaign to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer charities is undergoing a creative makeover to become “The Art of Pink.” All of The Peninsula hotels worldwide will present a month of pink-infused art, dining and spa experiences for guests to enjoy. In keeping with the global commitment to support innovative public art, The Peninsula Chicago is installing a significant art installation entitled ‘Alchemy’ by renowned Korean artist Choi Jeong Hwa, curated by Pearl Lam Galleries, a site-specific light installation of 24 “totem pole” pillars that consist of found LED lights, plastic bowls and steel. One of the pink pieces in the exhibit, selected specifically by the artist, will be auctioned at the end of October, with the proceeds donated to The Peninsula Chicago’s local breast cancer charity partner, Lynn Sage Cancer Research Foundation.

The Art of Pink builds on the partnerships The Peninsula Chicago has created with leading art museums, galleries and private collectors to provide guests with privileged access to groundbreaking art by established masters and emerging artists. Choi Jeong Hwa (b. 1961) is both an artist and a designer of buildings, furniture, and furnishings. One of the most dynamic and well known Korean contemporary artists, his work has been presented at numerous biennials including Liverpool (2004), Venice (2005), and Singapore (2006), as well as at Asia House, London (2006) and Wolverhampton (2007).

In Chicago, guests and visitors are invited to bid via a sealed bid process on a single piece from Mr. Choi’s ‘Alchemy’. This is a very unique opportunity to own a piece of a world-renowned artist’s installation that has exhibited throughout the world and to support a worthy cause, the Lynn Sage Cancer Research Foundation. For rules and additional information, please contact the hotel concierge at +1 (312) 573 6530.

Pink is the preferred color at the Peninsula hotels each October, and to support The Art of Pink initiative, the main entrance and signage of The Peninsula Chicago will be artfully illuminated in pink each evening from October 1 to 31, 2015. The hotel’s flower arrangements will adopt a rose hue, and a “Remembrance Tree” will be available for guests to write names of cancer survivors or memories of loved ones. Guests can enjoy pink-infused gourmet dining and spa experiences, with part of the proceeds donated to the Lynn Sage Cancer Research Foundation.

Throughout October, The Lobby will serve a special Art of Pink Peninsula Afternoon Tea, featuring rose-tinted sweet and savory treats presented on a tiered silver tea stand for US$ 60, with US$ 5 from each tea served donated to the charity. Monday through Saturday, tea seatings are at 2:30 pm and 4:30 pm and on Sundays between 3:30 pm and 5:00 pm. The “Pretty in Pink” cocktail will be featured in The Bar with a donation from each purchase. The Spa will feature “Pedi-for-a-Cure”, a deeply nourishing pedicure for US$ 95 with US$ 10 benefitting the organization (when guests mention “Pedi-for-a-Cure” during booking).

Another highlight of The Art of Pink month will be an afternoon tea fashion presentation on October 9, 2015 by Saks Fifth Avenue on Michigan Avenue, featuring lifestyle vendors such as Max Mara and Akris Punto, as well as a selection of shoes and handbags. Afternoon tea attendees will be invited to the store where 10% of their purchases for the day benefit Lynn Sage Cancer Research Foundation. US$ 10 from every afternoon tea on October 9, 2015 will be donated to the charity.

About Peninsula in Pink

Breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer among women and the second-most common cancer in the world today, accounting for one in ten of all new cancers diagnosed worldwide, and nearly one in four female cancer cases. With these statistics in mind, The Peninsula Hotels decided to harness its resources and create the Peninsula in Pink charitable initiative.

Launched in Hong Kong in 2010, Peninsula in Pink is an annual event at all The Peninsula hotels in Asia, North America and Europe. Each hotel shows its support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October by creating pink-inspired afternoon teas, cocktails, dining and spa promotions and special events, with part of the proceeds donated to a local breast cancer organization.

In 2015, Peninsula in Pink undergoes an artistic makeover, and is retitled The Art of Pink. Each hotel will exhibit pink-themed artworks in partnership with acclaimed artists and galleries. An exclusive pink ribbon pin designed for Breast Cancer Awareness Month is available for sale in each hotel.
