Dear Applicant

Teaching Assistant (1.0 FTE) : 32.5 hours per week from September 2015

Thank you for showing an interest in the post of TA3 at our Academy. You may find the following information useful in helping you with your application.

Oasis Academy Henderson Avenue is a large, inclusive urban primary school that is always challenging itself to have high expectations to develop and achieve success for all. It has 3 classes in each year group and an attached 39-place nursery and is situated in the Henderson Avenue area of Scunthorpe from which it draws the majority of its pupils.

This is a successful and well-regarded primary academy with a determination and an ambition to provide outstanding education for our pupils. Following a good Ofsted in October 2012 the school joined the Oasis family of academies, recognising the benefits that being part of a large, national academy group could bring. Ofsted (November 2014) recognised and praised the many strengths of the Academy and judged us firmly good in all areas. Our children are proud of their school and love coming and we offer them a wide range of before and after school activities, from a daily breakfast club to a variety of sports, drama and arts clubs, activities for gifted and talented pupils and many more.

Every member of staff is committed to the academy and its pupils and everyone works very hard to offer the children a varied and interesting curriculum which over the past two years we have prioritised for development to inspire curiosity, imagination and enjoyment, through the planning of a range of experiences to support the acquisition of basic skills planned around inspiring themes. Our aim is to take our children on a learning journey that will enable them to be happy, confident and responsible citizens of the future. We are fortunate to have a culturally diverse school population: 28% of our pupils are from ethnic minority backgrounds, a higher than average number are eligible for free school meals. We are incredibly proud of the excellent progress our children make while they are with us, which puts us in the top 40% of primaries nationally.

We have invested in excellent pastoral provision and the team’s knowledge, skills and experience means we are able to offer high quality social and emotional support to children from all year groups and our effective and proactive behaviour management is a strength of the school. Home-school links are also a strength of the academy, as is our work with a number of other professional agencies. We are committed to serving and strengthening our community through our Oasis Hub provision of high quality extended school services.

We recognise the value of effective CPD in helping to develop every member of staff’s skills and abilities, and all members of staff have access to a range of development opportunities provided in-house, through Oasis Community Learning and North Lincolnshire Local Authority.

We are part of the government’s Priority Schools Building Programme and will be moving into a brand new building in January 2016, an exciting move which will significantly enhance the overall quality of our children’s day-to-day experience.

We are now looking to appoint an enthusiastic and skilled Teaching Assistant who has a genuine passion and belief in the potential of every pupil, a motivation to continually improve standards and achieve excellence, to join our team working in KS2. A strength of our academy is that teaching teams work closely together across year groups and in Key Stages to plan, monitor and moderate. Classes are well-supported by our Pastoral Team so that provision for pupils with additional needs is particularly effective.

To be successful you will need to be optimistic and full of energy. You will relish challenge, be resilient and prepared to work hard. You will enjoy working with a wide range of people and communicate well and you also need to feel that your values align with those of the Academy and Oasis. Education currently is demanding and full of challenge, but working at Oasis Academy Henderson Avenue is also very rewarding and full of interest and there is the added benefit of being based in a brand new school from January 2016!
