Objectives: The students will identify the main character and plot of a story, use prior knowledge to understand story characters and events, use word structure to determine word meaning, activate and use prior knowledge to improve comprehension, use prior knowledge to help recognize character and plot, review the parts of a dictionary and glossary, and use dictionaries and glossaries to find the meanings of unfamiliar words. TSW define and id four kinds of sentences, use end punctuation correctly, use for kinds of sentences is writing.

Monday

Whole Group Instruction

· Discuss Skill: Plot & Character and Strategy: Prior Knowledge on p. 18

· Watch 5 Elements Video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6I24S72Jps&feature=player_embedded

· Read and discuss “Homework Help” on p. 19, discussing skill and strategy.

· Introduce Vocabulary w/ppt

· Discuss Character Traits- Hand out Character GO to complete w/main character in the reading story

· Trifold- Monday questions
