POSITION: / Temporary Help – Mosquito Control Field Technicians
STATUS: / Temporary Status - 28 hours per week
May through August8AM to 4PM (may include evening and weekend work).
Pay: S-1 ($11.21 per hour)
JOB DESCRIPTION
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: / The field technician assists in the operation of Summit County Mosquito Control Program and must display initiative and follow through in completing tasks; be reliable, mature and adaptable; relate successfully with the community and co-workers regardless of their social, ethnic, or religious status; comply with agency objectives, philosophy and policies.
  • Investigating mosquito complaints in assigned area.
  • Informing residents of steps for mosquito abatement.
  • Collecting or trapping mosquito larvae and/or adults if needed.
  • Applying pesticides to mosquito larvae when found.
  • Assisting with special larvicide applications as needed (ditches, package plants, catch-basins, etc).
  • Assisting with special adulticide applications as needed (parks, special events, tire piles, etc).
  • Performing evening adulticiding treatments if needed.
  • Maintaining accurate records and ability to read maps.
  • Maintaining and storing equipment responsibly.
  • Completing other mosquito control related tasks as needed.

EDUCATION: / High school diploma or equivalent.
College or university science/health majors preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS: /
  • Must have a valid Ohio driver's license, in good standing.
  • Must be able to drive a full-size pickup.
  • Ability to read and understand written instructions, to add and subtract whole numbers, and to understand the safe handling of pesticides and keep accurate records.
  • Must have an understanding of basic biology or science, and must be capable of learning to respond to questions and concerns from the general public.
  • A Certified Public Operator license may be obtained as part of training program conducted during June.
