July 19, 2016

Dear Young Families,

Hello from school, where we are busily preparing for the start of the new school year! The summer is moving by quickly. I hope that your family is having a restful and enjoyable summer.

The Young staff and I are busily preparing for the start of the 2016-2017 school year. We continue to focus upon creating a school environment that encourages and challenges all students to meet their academic potential through collaborative as well as individual learning. We are focused on providing students with educational opportunities that help children to develop a growth mindset that is focused upon finding solutions to all of the learning and academic challenges that they will experience this school year.

We are excited about two new programs that will begin at Young School this fall. (Additional information about both of these programs will come after the school year begins.)

·  Young School is opening a student “Creator Space”. The Creator Space will be open to all grade levels and will provide children with the materials to explore and create student imagined ideas and concepts. Students will also have the chance to further develop their problem solving and collaboration skills as they work through their ideas with their peers. Young School wrote a grant to the Indian Prairie Education Foundation (IPEF) and the school was awarded $1800.00 to help the school purchase materials to assist in implementing the Creator Space.

·  The school is implementing a “Creator Moms” volunteer program for moms, aunts, and other significant women in our children’s lives to help support Young students as they work in the Creator Space.

I want to extend an invitation to each of you, as part of the Young community, to become actively involved with the staff and students in fostering an enthusiasm for learning. We are excited about the many wonderful events scheduled for the 16-17 school year. Please know that the Young staff is dedicated to the educational success of Young children. We are all committed to providing a safe, academic focused learning environment. If you need further information or have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact at 375-3800.

Please review the attached back to school reminder document for important August dates.

Sincerely,

Ms. Morgan

Principal, Young Elementary School
