RN BSN “Pod” Program Admission Policy
All applicants must hold an unencumbered Indiana RN license. Selection will be made at least 45 days prior to the start of the First term for the Cohort Group. Specific selection dates will be available in the Advising office. Students will be notified of acceptance by letter.
In cases where two cohorts will be started at the same time (i.e. for off-site offering), two separate category lists will be generated. The student may sign up on both lists, if desired, however, must attend at the site where accepted. The application is only good for the cohort beginning in the semester noted on the form. If a student chooses to be considered for another starting semester then the student must complete and submit a new application. Complete applications are due:
July 1 for the Fall Semester cohort
November 1 for the Spring Semester cohort
March 1 for the Summer Semester cohort
Please check with your advisor as cohorts of RN BSN students do not begin every semester, but will begin at least one time per academic year.
Category 1: (first priority selection)
RN has a Cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale either from Indiana University or from the degree granting institution for the ASN or Diploma. In case both GPA scores are available, the higher GPA will be used in determining placement; and
Student has 12 or fewer remaining credits needed to meet General Education Requirements:
For applicants to a Fall semester cohort, this criterion must be met as of the Spring
Semester prior to fall to be considered in Category 1.
For applicants to a Spring semester cohort, this criterion must be met as of Summer II
the year prior to be considered in Category 1.
For applicants to a Summer semester cohort, this criterion must be met as of Fall
semester the year prior to be considered in Category 1.
Students will be ranked according to GPA within category 1, and selection will begin with the highest GPA. If places are still available when the Category 1 selection has concluded, students from Category 2 will be selected.
Category 2: (second priority selection)
RN has a Cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale either from Indiana University or from the degree granting institution for the ASN or Diploma. In case both GPA scores are available, the higher GPA will be used in determining placement. Students with a GPA of 2.3 – 2.5 may be admitted on a probationary status, but must achieve and maintain a 2.5 GPA in Pod 1 courses in order to progress from Pod 1 forward. This performance standard must be met each successive semester.
Student has more than 12 remaining credits needed to achieve General Education Requirements. Students in this category will be ranked according to how many credits remain to complete General Education requirements, and selection will begin with those needing the fewest credit hours.
If you do not meet the minimum GPA requirements:
Students who do not have a GPA meeting these criteria may take courses at Indiana University to generate or improve the IU GPA (and should work with advisors to ensure that courses taken apply to the General Education requirements).

Criminal Background Check:
Students are required to complete a Background Check through Certified Background.com prior to acceptance into the RN – BSN Program. (See attached instructions)

Information collected through CertifiedBackground.com is secure, tamper-proof and kept confidential. The services performed are based on guidelines provided by your school, so you know you will receive all the information you need from one source. Your results will be posted on the CertifiedBackground.com website where the student, as well as the school, can view them.

◦ In addition to entering your full name and date of birth, you will be asked for your Social Security Number, current address, phone number and email address.
➢ Payment Information
◦ At the end of the online order process, you will be prompted to enter your Visa or MasterCard information. Money orders are also accepted but will result in a $10 fee and an additional turnaround time.
Step 1: Go to: www.CertifiedBackground.com and click on “Students”.
Step 2: Enter Package Code: IA03 – Initial Background Check Package
After placing your order on CertifiedBackground.com, you will receive a confirmation email that will contain the password needed to access your results and view any missing information required to process your order.
Go to: www.CertifiedBackground.com, enter the password provided and the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number to access your information.
Although 95% of background check results are completed within 3-5 business days, some results may take longer. To see your order status, return to CertifiedBackground.com with your password. Your order will show as “In Process” until it has been completed in its entirety. Your school's administrator can also securely view your results online with their unique username and password.
