The Institute of Internal Auditors (“IIA”) Bermuda Chapter was formed to reinforce the island’s focus on good corporate governance and responsibility while providing professionals with the tools to deliver value added services to the local and international business community.

This scholarship award is intended for undergraduate collegiate Bermudian students, university degree holders or eligible working adults interested in obtaining the Certified Internal Auditor and other Internal Audit related designations and working as an Internal Audit professional for the betterment of the profession, Bermuda, and Bermudians.

Applicants must meet or demonstrate the ability to meet the following eligibility requirements:

· Two years post-secondary education and five years verified experience in internal audit or its equivalent, OR seven years verified experience in internal audit or its equivalent.

· CIA candidates with a 4 year post-secondary degree must obtain a minimum of 24 months of internal auditing experience or its equivalent. A Master’s degree can substitute for 12 of the required 24 months.

· Exhibit high moral and professional character and must submit a Character Reference Form signed by a CIA, CGAP, CCSA, CFSA, CRMA, or candidate's supervisor when applying for the exam.

· Display exemplary professional behavior and judgment and must agree to abide by the IIA’s Code of Ethics

The scholarship is limited to Bermudians and long term residents of Bermuda and is tenable for payment of fees and/or obtaining preparatory materials associated with the Certified Internal Auditor and other IIA related examinations (CRMA, CGAP, CFSA, CCSA), up to $2,000 or such other amount as the Scholarship Committee determines is reasonable, justified and necessary. To be considered for this scholarship, all documentation (i.e. proof of education, character reference, and identification) must be submitted and approved by The IIA’s Certification staff. The IIA Bermuda Chapter will pay 50% of the examination fees (and related preparatory materials) directly as candidates are registered and eligible to sit the examination(s) and the remaining 50% upon completion of a course examination with a passing grade.

Scholarships are awarded on the basis of the degree to which the Scholarship Committee and the Board believes that the eligibility criteria are met. If a scholarship holder decides to discontinue their participation in the program, there will be no further scholarship disbursements required. The completed application form, along with supporting documentation, must be submitted via email to in sufficient time for consideration, generally at least one month before disbursements are required.

The Scholarship winner must submit invoices to support the proper use of the scholarship funds. Improper use of funds could disqualify the person from writing the examination and result in a request to repay the funds. The Scholarship winner will be eligible only once for the scholarship but may write the CIA (or other IIA related) examination as many times as they are eligible and willing.

The Board anticipates awarding up to two scholarships per year and reserves the right to, at its discretion, increase the number of scholarships awarded to more than two per year.

INSTRUCTIONS:

The application will be used to evaluate applicants interested in becoming Certified Internal Auditors and/or obtaining other Internal Audit related designations.

For priority consideration, please submit one completed application form with sufficient time for consideration. All Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit all necessary documents (including proof of having satisfied or being able to satisfy CIA or other examination requirements) as soon as is possible.

Incomplete applications will not be considered, and applications will not be returned.
