Speaking Final Instructions

The speaking final will be completely different from the Speaking Midterm. The Speaking Final will occur in groups of 2, with one group of 3 in classes with an odd number of students.

Your goal is to memorize and perform a short role play in front of the class in late May or early June. You may NOT use a note card during our Speaking Final. Your role play needs to be about one of the topics below, and must include vocabulary from Spanish 1.

Length: 1.5-2.5 minute conversation for groups of 2.5-3.5 minute conversation for groups of 3; each student must have approximately the same number of lines in the conversation

Optional Topics: When assigned your group, you must let your teacher know which topic you are going to do by Friday May 1st.

· Teacher and Student in any class

· Two people meeting for the first time at a party - get to know each other

· Customer and an employee in a clothing store or school supplies store

· Customer and a waiter in a restaurant

· Two family members at home

Written Conversation: 15% of grade on Speaking Final; Due on Wednesday, May 6th. Teacher will revise the conversation grammatically and return it with suggestions on how to improve. Please work together with your partner on composing your written conversation.

In class days for practice: We will spend time on Friday, May 1st and Monday, May 4th composing your written conversations. If you need additional time outside of class, make arrangements to meet with or contact your partner. We will spend the class on Monday, May 11th and Tuesday, May 12th practicing the conversation out loud. Practice makes perfect! Remember, you need to memorize your skit!

When: There will be two role plays per class period, starting on Wednesday, May 20th until they have been completed. Please do not be absent on the day of your Speaking Final unless you are seriously ill. In the case that you miss school the day of your speaking final, you will only be able to make it up if you bring a note saying why you were absent.

Extra Credit: Each member of the group can use up to 3 props to enhance their skit. For each prop that each person uses, that person will receive a bonus point. Finally, if your skit includes a line that makes Sr. Paulino laugh, that will earn a bonus point for your group as well. Thus, each student could potentially receive 104% on the Speaking Final.

Rubric: 15% Written Conversation (due May 6th), 15% Preparation Days (May 1st, 4th, 11th, 12th), 70% Role Play (30% Grammar, 20% use of vocabulary from class, 10% pronunciation, 10% minimum time), +4% (optional props and funny line)

**Points can be deducted if you have significantly fewer lines than your partner.
