General Information:

AP&P is a division of the Department of Corrections that supervises offenders on parole or probation. The Day Reporting Center (DRC) is a program of AP&P that provides substance abuse and mental health treatment to these offenders. Both men and women engage in all professional and officer/agent roles.

Program:

Ø A 3-phase program for substance abuse, averaging 26 weeks. Classes include cognitive- behavioral programs such as Moral Reconation Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and psychoeducation classes on substance abuse, family issues, parenting, and relapse prevention.

Ø Random urinalysis is also required of offenders to screen for drug use.

Ø Other services of the DRC include case-management, supervision, mental health evaluations for the Courts, individual counseling, coordinating services with probation agents and providing speaker panels with offenders to local high schools.

Ø Staff include a social worker, a psychologist, a correctional officer, 2 probation agents and administrative staff.

Opportunities for Interns: Many of the following can be tailored to meet individual interests and academic requirements.

Ø Perform interviews with offenders and case management activities for intake process.

Ø Learn how state agencies and departments operate and interact.

Ø Shadow professional staff in most duties.

Ø Generate and implement research projects.

Ø Create and expand treatment curriculum.

Ø Assist in most groups and classes.

Ø Particpate in treatment review meetings.
