1. Registration forms and fees must be received by the NPDA two (2) weeks prior to the scheduled class. Registration deadlines are included in the schedule.

2. If the NPDA does not have five (5) registrants for a scheduled class two (2) weeks prior to the class, the scheduled class will be canceled.

3. The maximum number of students for the classes is 20 and registration will be on a first-come, first serve basis.

4. Accommodations for late registrations will be based upon class size, available supplies and will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. Please contact the NPDA to inquire about availability. Class cost for walk-in will be $50.00 per NPDA member and $100.00 per non-member.

CETP Book 1 - Basic Principles and Practices of Propane

The CETP Basic Principles and Practices of Propane offers an "entry level" course that provides pre-requisite instruction about propane's physical and combustion properties, how propane is produced and transported and will aid in preparing for NPGA’s CETP certification. Basic Principles and Practices of Propane is an essential tool for ensuring employee safety and continuing success. The course is updated to NFPA 54, 2015 edition and NFPA 58, 2016 edition.

The topics covered are:

•Introduction to Basic Principles and Practices of Propane

•Propane Customer Applications and Customer Service

•Sources and Physical Properties of Propane

•Odorants and Service Interruptions

•Complete and Incomplete Combustion Characteristics

•Standards, Regulations, and Safety

•Bulk Plants

•DOT Cylinders, Propane Piping, and Residential Systems

CETP Book 2.1 & 2.4 - Propane Delivery Operations and Cylinder Delivery

This course is primarily designed to train propane delivery personnel who operate cylinder delivery vehicles and bobtails to deliver propane. It provides information, practices, and procedures that support many general delivery tasks. The course is updated to NFPA 54, 2012 edition and NFPA 58, 2014 edition.

The topics covered are:

• DOT licensing, driving requirements and restrictions.

• Vehicle inspections, identification, and documentation highlights.

• Recognizing and preventing hazards associated with handling propane and other flammable liquids.

• Identifying procedures for handling out-of-gas calls and leak checking distribution piping systems.

• Safe driving strategies and procedures for handling accidents and emergencies.

• Regulations for parking CMV indoors and outdoors.

• Common features of cylinders and their valves, gauges, and fittings.

• Preparing cylinders for service, including proper inspection, purging, and valve extraction procedures.

• Filling cylinders and ASME vehicle-mounted tanks at the bulk plant.

CETP Book 2.2 - Bobtail Delivery Operations

This course provides information for drivers who operate commercial motor vehicles to deliver propane. It provides practices and procedures that support many general delivery tasks. Primarily designed to train employees who operate a bobtail, the most common vehicle used for transporting and delivering propane to individual customers, the course is updated to NFPA 54, 2012 edition and NFPA 58, 2014 edition.

The topics covered are:

• Bobtail equipment and systems, including cargo tank, gauges, valves, pumps, meters, delivery hoses and emergency discharge control equipment.

• Presents detailed procedures for safely loading a bobtail using the plant pump.

• Discusses DOT requirements for bobtail inspections.

• Reviews the features and installation requirements of ASME tanks at customer locations.

CETP Book 5.1 Designing & Installing Dispenser Transfer Systems

Primarily designed to train employees who use and operate a dispenser, the course includes information on dispenser tank valves, fittings and locations; and installing, start up and shut down procedures of a dispenser transfer system.

The topics covered are:

• Dispenser application operating requirements and proper location.

• Types of containers.

• Dispenser tank size and orientation

• Dispenser component selection

• Installation requirements

• Provisions for vertical tanks

• Electrical supply specifications

CETP Book 4.4 - Basic Electricity for Propane Appliance Service

The New Basic Electricity for Propane Appliance Service course enables participants to interpret electrical components and diagrams, and measure electrical quantities, and will aid in preparing for NPGA’s CETP certification. Basic Electricity for Propane Appliance Service is an essential tool for ensuring employee safety and continuing success.

Course Goals include;

• Follow safety procedures.

• Interpret electrical control circuit diagrams for basic appliances.

• Use a digital multimeter.

• Measure voltage, resistance and current at any point in an electrical circuit.

• Identify functions of common sensing devices in basic appliances.

• Identify functions of common controls and components in basic propane appliances, including:

- Transformers.

- Relays and contactors.

- Motors and capacitors.

- Wall thermostats.

- Limit and fan controls.

- Ignition systems.

- Gas control valves.

• Troubleshoot electrical circuits.

CETP Book 4.5 – Basic Appliance Service and Troubleshooting

The course focuses primarily on safely and efficiently servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing basic propane appliances. This course will instruct you on the specific steps in these important tasks.

For the purpose of this course, basic propane appliances are defined as simple appliances that do not have advanced controls and complex electronic ignition systems. They may have simple electronic ignition systems, such as those found in many ranges. They include 120/24 V and DC millivolt systems.
