ABOUT THE PLAY

Pride and Prejudice is Jane Austen’s beloved tale of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr Darcy finding love, despite differences of class and temperament, in early 19th-century England. This new adaptation, by T@F Artistic Director Elizabeth Hunter, aims to bring the delight of this story to life in a vibrant and original way.

Some of these roles (particularly Sir William/Mr Gardiner, Miss Anne/Georgiana, Lady Lucas/Mrs Reynolds) may be doubled.

In addition, we are looking for several people to serve in non-speaking roles. They would participate in the dances as soldiers and townspeople, and elsewhere as servants, in addition to moving set pieces. Please indicate on your form if you would be willing to accept one of these roles, if you are not otherwise cast.

AUDITIONS Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled audition time. If you have not filled out an audition form in advance, extra copies will be available. Headshots and resumes are not required. When your audition time arrives, you will be called into the hall with the other members of your audition group. Please take a seat. The director will introduce herself and sides for cold readings will be assigned. You will have a few minutes to look over the sides before being called to perform them. The director may stop you during the scene to re-direct—this is not an indication that what you are doing is wrong, simply that she is giving you the opportunity to show her something more. Most auditioners will read two scenes. Every attempt will be made to let you read for parts of specific interest, as noted on your audition sheet. We understand that auditions are nerve-wracking—we want you to relax, have fun, and have every opportunity to show us what you can do.

CALL-BACKS Some actors may be called back to read again on Wednesday, November 30th. If you are not called back, this does not mean you are not cast. Really.

NOTIFICATION You will be notified, one way or another, by Friday, December 2nd at 5pm. Please make sure that your contact information is legible. If you have not heard from us by that time, please email

READ-THRU The first reading of the play will take place at 7pm on Monday, December 5th at Unity Somerville.

REHEARSALS Rehearsals will take place at Unity Somerville on weeknights 7-10pm. Additional time for line-running and one-on-one work with the director may be scheduled at other times. There will be a two-week break over the holidays. Rehearsals during the final week of production will take place at the Somerville Theatre. These rehearsals may run later, but every effort will be made to release actors as early as possible. Not all actors will be required to attend all rehearsals.

CONFLICTS Please be sure to indicate all potential conflicts on the calendar on the back of the Audition Sheet. Every attempt will be made to accommodate conflicts, but once the schedule is set, it is very hard to adjust it. If you do not have your calendar available at auditions, you may email with additional conflict information.

WORK DAYS Actors are expected to attend two work days during the rehearsal period to participate in the construction of set, costumes, props, etc. These will be held on Saturday afternoons at Unity Somerville. If you are not available for work days, the Technical Director will be happy to discuss other ways and times that you can help.

PERFORMANCES Opening night will be Friday, March 23rd at 8pm. Additional performances will take place on Saturday, March 24th at 8pm; Friday, March 30th at 8pm; and on Saturday, March 31st at 2pm. All performances will take place at the Somerville Theatre in Davis Square.

CREW If you would like to join the technical crew and/or support staff of P&P, please make note of that on your audition form. We are happy to train you, but if you have any special skills please let us know. Our producer or a technical lead will contact you regarding participation.

FEEDBACK We try to make our auditions as smooth and pleasant as possible. If you have comments or questions regarding the process, please speak to one of our staff, or email
