40 Days Fasting Negative Thoughts and Words

Thinking God’s Thoughts and Speaking God’s Word

REPEAL AND REPLACE

Days 9-16

Day 9

Colossians 3:5-9 - REPEAL

Therefore, consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry. For it is because of these things that the wrath of God will come upon the sons of disobedience, and in them you also once walked, when you were living in them.

knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin.

We start this week with triumphant expectation that we are no longer tied to the sins of our flesh! Hallelujah! We exalt and magnify Jesus who has delivered us from the bondage of sin. We are no longer slaves to an old lifestyle. We change our mind; we now have the mind of Christ. It is very powerful to see Jesus on the cross taking every evil thing you have ever thought or done. Then, see him resurrected with both of you standing in front of that same cross he bled and died on. Together, walk through that cross and leave your old nature on the other side. This exercise represents thinking on the pure, lovely, virtuous transaction that happened at the cross. When an old mindset tries to resurrect, take it through the cross! Today, we celebrate resurrection transformation.

Day 10

Matthew 9:17 - REPEAL

Nor do people put new wine into old wineskins; otherwise the wineskins burst, and the wine pours out and the wineskins are ruined; but they put new wine into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved.

Ephesians 4:22-24 - REPLACE

Concerning your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.

Today we acknowledge that the old ways of the old man will not continue to form my identity and shape my future. I lay aside the old self and put on Jesus, my new creation identity. What he has said and done is who I am. I will read, acknowledge and engage with my true self; I am who the Word of God says I am. I am being renewed in my thoughts and I am becoming a new wineskin (vessel). I will not give in to the negative that brings self-destruction, but rather the life-giving light that reframes me in wholeness.

Day 11

Matthew 15:11 - REPEAL

It is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth; this defiles a person.

Proverbs 18:21 - REPLACE

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.

Remember, this is a fast, and the Hebrew meaning of the word fast is “to shut the mouth.” We are shutting our mouths from releasing negative life-killing words that should no longer be a part of who we are. Words begin as thoughts. Luke 6:45 reveals, “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” You have heard the phrase, “think before you speak.” When you have a negative thought, there is a 3 second period where you can change

that thought on purpose. The second a negative thought comes into your mind, acknowledge it is illegal and change it on purpose by speaking the opposite. This is how we overcome, by the blood of the Lamb and the WORD OF OUR TESTIMONY (Revelation 12:11). We overcame the test with our words and by the blood of Jesus!

Day 12

1 John 1:6 - REPEAL

If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth;

1 John 1:7 - REPLACE

but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.

Stay in the lighted areas! It is time to admit that we cannot live a double life. James 3:11 reminds us that a well cannot bring forth bitter and sweet water. Neither can we, as sons and daughters of God live in darkness and light. John 1:4-5 says,In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. Darkness cannot intermingle with light. Yes, the blood of Jesus cleanses us, but you do not come out of a shower to roll in mud! The Holy Spirit alive in you will guide you into all truth (John 16:13). Your job is to follow directions!

Day 13

Romans 8:12-13 - REPEAL

So then, brethren, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh-- for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.

It is a matter of life or death. When you hear that phrase, your attention is captured. You know that you must listen intently, and without fail, proceed according to instruction. Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the LIFE (John 14:6). Today, we repeal old ways of thinking that have kept us in a cycle of death. We declare death to death! Look at 1 Peter 2:24, this scripture reveals that Jesus bore our sin and death, but look, there’s more; “by His wounds you were healed.” We are delivered from sin and death, AND WE ARE HEALED! Rejoice, that Jesus has brought death to death and celebrate your life and health.

Day 14

Colossians 2:8 - REPEAL

Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

1 Peter 1:12-15 - REPLACE

It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in the things that have now been announced to you through those who preached the good news to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which angels long to look. Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct,

The Apostle Paul in Colossians 2:8 reminds us that there will always be someone who will be encouraging you to think and engage with wrong behavior. Know this, it is not only what you think, say, and do; but it is who you listen to and observe that forms you. You cannot be bombarded with a wrong way of thinking and behaving and think that it will not affect you. Sometimes we willingly give ourselves to watching and listening to what is contrary to God’s Word. Please know that you will continue in frustration with your life in Christ if this way of living persists. Then there are times our environment is hostile to the Word of God and it is not of our own choosing. Either way, you are responsible to acknowledge the truth from a lie, and practice the truth. Be honest with yourself today. Take action to turn off the wrong thoughts and corrupt actions. You are on a new pathway of life. Repeal and replace!

Day 15

Colossians 3:9-10 - REPEAL

Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices, and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him.

Joshua 1:8 – REPLACE

This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth; but you shall meditate therein day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success.

The definition of a lie is “an intentional false statement.” ANYTHING that we say or do that is opposite of our new life in Jesus is a lie. “It is no longer I that lives, but Christ that lives in me.” We know that statement is true, but we find ourselves asking, “what does that look like in me, and how do I accomplish it?” Remember, change your mind, change your life. Faith, or your new way of being and believing in Jesus comes through hearing the Word and you embracing that Word as your truth. “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God” (Romans 10:17). Read Joshua 1:8, again, “This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth.” As you hear yourself saying the Word, you are reframing your life (Hebrews 11:3). Keep thinking and speaking the Word. You are being changed!

Day 16

Philippians 3:13 - REPEAL

Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind…

Philippians 3:14 - REPLACE

…continuing forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Today, we launch into our third week with great anticipation and joy. One of the greatest gifts of salvation is being able to forget what lies behind. It’s not that it is scrubbed from our memory, but the penalty for that past sin has been paid, which allows us to move forward. Remorse keeps us from committing the same crime, but condemnation never allows our sins to be forgiven. Today, remember, it is not your past that defines you, it is JESUS PAST: He bore my sins as the spotless Lamb. JESUS PRESENT: He is my NOW identity in the Father. JESUS FUTURE: I reign with Him in His Kingdom. Jesus Christ, the same (in me) yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).
