2. Applicant Qualifications
- All applicants must hold a PhD degree or a qualification equivalent to a PhD, or have research achievements equivalent to a PhD in a related specialization.
- Applicants must meet all requirements of the Seoul National University Hiring Policy and the College of Engineering Hiring Policyand research work criteria.(see details from or send inquiries to )
3. Faculty Appointment(Contract) Period
- Appointment period for non-tenure-track faculty in the field of ‘Fiber Reinforced Composites’ is two years.
- Appointment period for non-tenure-track faculty in the field of ‘Engineering Communication’ or ‘Engineering Ethics’ is up to four years.
- Contract renewal is not available for non-tenure-track faculty positions.

4. General Application Review Process
All applications will be reviewed in two stages. The following criteria and materials will be reviewed at these stages:
Stage1) Field of specialization review
- whether the applicant's abilities and specializationlie in the opening area
- assessment of recent research achievements (within the past three years)
- total research achievements to the present
Stage 2) Interview
- presentation or lecture
- personal essay and statement of research and teaching objectives
- assessment of suitability of appointment

The list should include all research achievementsfrom the applicant's graduate school tothe present with(where applicable) the title, authors, publication date and title of the journal(including volume, issue, pages). - Recent research achievements for detailed review - 7 copies each(including1 original)
①Submitted research achievements must have been published after November 1, 2006(including online publications) or have been accepted for publication. Research achievements should reach a total of 200 - 400 points. (please omit items exceedinga total of 400 points)
②The following items are eligible to be counted (see remarks below) :
- Doctoral dissertation: A dissertation is treated as a 100point research accomplishment; if the dissertation or part of it was also published in another form (for example, book or journal articles), you may not count both the dissertation and the other publications – please choose whichever is favorable tothe applicant.
- Papers in regular periodic journals:Conference proceeding papers and book chapters are excluded.
- International Patents
- SCI(science citation index) conference proceedings: If the percentile of selection for screening is lower than 1/3 and the College of Engineering Human Resources committee acknowledges, it may be recognized as an accomplishment, but the number of papers from such case can not exceed 1/2 of the required materials.
- Books: A text book for the corresponding major or a research monograph that has contributed to progress in the corresponding research field. (Translations,redactions, and dictionariesare not counted)

- single author 100 points
- two authors 70 points
- first or corresponding author with three or more authors 70 points
- three authors (not first or corresponding author) 50 points
- four or more authors (not first or corresponding author) 30 points
④Other Details
- The valid publication dateshould be clearly stated on each research achievement. Ifproof of publication date is not available, a copy of the cover and the table of contents of the relevant journal should be submitted.
- In case of research achievements to be published after the application deadline, only onearticlewill be recognized, when accompanied with a proof of acceptance with a given final publication date.However, the final publication date should come before the date of appointment.
- The article that has been recognized in clause ④-ii should be submitted as soon as it is published but no later than the scheduled appointment date. The published article should be identical to the material submitted for application (adding/removal/changes are unacceptable).
- Undergraduate and Graduate Transcripts and Diplomas - 2 copies each
- Official documentation confirming eachposition you occupied - 2 copies each
- Cover Letter and Curriculum Vitae - 2 copies each
(including major research and teaching achievements, fellowships and awards– around 5 pages) - Statement of Teaching and Research Interests - 2 copies each
(Statement of teaching should includea list ofcourses that the applicant would be able to teach together with suggestions of new courses that could be added to the curriculum. Research interests should include mid-term and long-term research plans and objectives.)

- Preference will be given to:
①Candidates with a substantial academic/research career as a scholar and outstanding achievements
②Candidates capable of contributing to a new field orinterdisciplinary studies.
- Faculty will be required to deliver lectures in English (minimum of 1 course per semester).

- Other particulars not stated in this announcement will follow established Seoul National University protocols.

- Applicants may not apply for more than one position. Multiple applications by the same applicant will invalidate all of his or her applications.
- Depending on evaluation results, faculty openings may not be filled and the starting date of appointments may be changed.
- Appointment can be nullified even after employment has commenced if applicants have wilfully falsified application documents and/or have not fulfilled the appointment requirements.
