Purpose / This unit standard is for people working under limited supervision with responsibility for their work routines,in a production horticulture context.
People credited with this unit standard are able to demonstrate understanding of procedures and storage systems ofcoolstores or other storage facilities, stack pallets of produce; monitor stored produce in a coolstore or other storage facility; clean immediate surroundings and document the cleaning schedule of coolstores or other storage facilities.

Explanatory notes
1Evidence requirementsmust be consistent with:
- Workplace procedures
- Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.
2Workplace procedures refer to policies and procedures on safety, operation, and production set down by the employer or host organisation formoving, stacking and storing produce; environmental monitoring, and cleaning in a coolstore or other storage facility
3In the context of this unit standard, understanding means that there should be evidence of a learner’s thorough comprehension of a topic. A learner with a good understanding of a topic should have applied, or should be able to apply what they have learnt to a workplace situation and will be able to alter their practices to the different contexts they are applying their learning to. Assessors should be confident that the learner’s understanding is embedded in their practices and behaviour.

Outcome 1
Demonstrate understanding of procedures and storage systems of coolstoresor other storage facilities.
Evidence requirements
1.1Describe coolstoresor other storage facilities in terms of ideal layout, storage locations, and segregation requirements.
1.2Describe coolstores or other storage facilities in terms of safety protocols.
1.3Describe coolstores or other storage facilities in terms of storage systems used.
1.4Describe pre-cooling in terms of systems and processes.
1.5Describe refrigeration system components in terms of their functions.
Outcome 2
Move and stack pallets of produceaccording to workplace procedures.
Evidence requirements
2.1Wear protective equipment when stacking and movingproduce.
2.2Move and stack pallets or bins of produce in the coolstore or storage facility.
2.3Move and stack pallets or bins without causing damage toproduce, pallets or produce containers, infrastructure, and equipment.
Outcome 3
Operate the refrigeration system, and monitor the coolstore or other storage facility environment, and storedproduceaccording to workplace procedures.
Evidence requirements
3.1Wearappropriate personal protective equipment.
3.2Operate the refrigeration system to maintain optimum environment.
3.3Carry out temperature monitoring on the coolstore or other storage facility environment and storedproduce.
3.4Check the condition of stored produce and removeany damaged produce and containers from the coolstore or other storage facility.
3.5Input data into an inventory control system.
Outcome 4
Cleanimmediate surroundings, and document the cleaning scheduleof coolstoresor other storage facilitiesaccording to workplace procedures.
Evidence requirements
4.1Clean the coolstore or storage facility without damage toproduce or equipment.
4.2Maintain documentation on the cleaning schedule.
