2017 Paddle Challenge

COMPETITOR NOTES

- To complete this event you must be a competent swimmer and be able to perform a self-rescue or be wearing a PFD. All competitors under the age of 14 must wear a PFD regardless.

- Each paddler is responsible for ensuring their craft has sufficient buoyancy

- If you see a person capsized you have duty of care to make sure that person is ok. There will be a duress time taken into account post-race (please see Officials if necessary).

- Be aware of boating traffic, and stick to the right hand side of the river at all times.

- Be aware of fishing lines on the bank of the river.

- Canoeing WA has the right to disqualify or pull craft off the water.

- If you do require assistance from a safety craft please signal by raising your arm above your head and wait for a craft to arrive.

- If you do pull out from this event at any stage you need to advise us immediately. Please call the mobile number on the back of the meal voucher. Ideally you will inform the rescue boat closest to you as they circle.

- Any false starts will be given a 5-minute penalty. We do have a video camera at the start so if you are identified we will impose the penalty

- No wash riding powerboats, there will be spotters to make sure this doesn’t happen, and will write down numbers of guilty craft.

- If two boats are approaching each other, head on both boats turn right (starboard)

- All courses must start between marker and jetty

- Regardless of what course you are doing make sure you are hydrating before and during the event.

- The reason that entries close when they do, the volunteers need to know in advance numbers for catering, also it takes all day to make the categories up, organise the prizes, set-up web-scorer and get the briefing notes and the entry list out to the competitors, entries are open for a month at least before the closing date, so there is plenty of time to get your entries in. So in short there is a great deal of work to put an event on such as the Paddle Challenge.
