GENERAL

Notices explaining the new whip rule will be placed on the notice boards at all tracks in the weeks leading up to the implementation of the rule on the 1 May 2016. Please see Stewards if you have any questions regarding the new rule.

Participants are advised that new rules relating to whip use come into effect on 1 May 2016. To assist drivers understand the new rule Harness Racing Australia have released a video. To see the new rule and the video go to the link below.

RACE 1 – JEREMY ROCKLIFF MP PACE – 1930 METRES

SOLID AS A ROCK – Broke after the start and has been placed outside the draw for future mobile events.

TRIPLE AITCH FELLA – Tired from the 300 meters to be beaten 70 metres, placed on its last chance to race truly.

RACE 2 – DEVONPORT SADDLEWORLD PACE – 2297 METRES

SAPPHIRE RIVER – Underwent a pre-race veterinary inspection as the gelding had not started in a race for in excess of 12 months. SAPPHIRE RIVER was passed suitable to race. Raced rough on the first turn.

TIMELY SOVEREIGN – Hung out on the first turn and inconvenienced ART OF MY ART and AUGURAL. Driver Wade Rattray was advised to exercise more care when shifting into the three wide line. Driver Wade Rattray was queried into the improved performance tonight. Mr Rattray stated that the gelding had improved with racing and gained confidence and therefore was he was able to drive more positively.

OUR MAXICAM – Pulled hard throughout the event.

ART OF MY ART – Held up for clear racing room and unable to be fully tested in the run to line.

BLUES ACE – Driver Brett Jaffray was found guilty of a charge under AR 163(1)(b) for forcing AUGURAL to racein a four wide position before the candy pole. MrJaffray had his driver’s licence suspended for a period of two race dates to commence at midnight 18 March 2016 and expire at midnight on the 27 March 2016.

RACE 3 – TASMANIAN HORSE TRANSPORT MOBILE DIVISION ONE – 2297 METRES

WEONA MASTERPIECE -Acting on a confirmed telephone call from trainer Mr Paul Ashwood, WEONA MASTERPIECE was declared a late scratching at 9.30am as it was reported that the mare had a foot abscess in the off fore. A veterinary certificate was furnished as to the reasons for the late scratching, as such the stand down was reduced to 10 days.

ANOTHER METRO – Trainer Marc Butler advised Stewards that the gelding will be driven more conservatively tonight from its outside barrier. ANOTHER METRO restrained at the start from the wide draw to the tail of the field before making a three wide move in the middle stages when the tempo eased.Driver Mark Yole was found guilty of a charge of careless driving under AR 168(1)(a) the particulars being that when attempting to find the position outside the leader Mr Yole allowed his horse to shift in and make contact with the legs of THREEPENNYOPERA which was pulling and also had a tendency to hang out. Mr Yole was fined the sum of $200.

PLACE OF GOLD - Driver Shane Boon was reminded of his obligations in relation to whip carriage.

THREEPENNYOPERA –Pulled hard throughout after unsuccessfully contesting the lead.

RACE 4 – JOHN MCKENNA RACE NIGHT VET PACE – 2286 METRES

NEXT SOUND – Tired from the 300 metres and in doing so inconvenienced ODINS CALL GIRL. NEXT SOUND which was beaten by 53 meters underwent a post-race veterinary examination and no apparent injury could be detected. Driver Rohan Hillier stated that the gelding never travelled well in tonight’s event, NEXT SOUND has been placed on its last chance to race truly.

LAUGHYAHEADOFF – Fractious before the start and galloped out and has now been placed on its last chance in the draw. Driver Allister Woods was issued with a reprimand for using the whip on one occasion in the freehand manner prior to the 200 metre mark. Trainer/driver Allister Woods was queried in regards to the poor performance of the mare in this event. Mr Woods stated he was unable to lead tonight due to the mare galloping out and added that the mare does not show its best form when it is unable to lead.

RED SUN BLISS –Galloped out at the start and will be placed on its last chance in the draw.

RACE 5 – SEAFM MOBILE – 2297 METRES

IN HOUSE – Trainer Ben Yoleadvised Stewards that the gelding will be driven further forward tonight, circumstances permitting. Driver Matthew Howlett attempted to carry out the pre-raceinstructions however after showing gate speed and racing four wide in the early stages MrHowlett then restrained the gelding into the running line.

An inquiry will be held in regards to a racing incident involving PUSHKIN NZ and MUSSELROE BAY and into driver Troy Hillier leaving the course when required for an inquiry.

RACE 6 – HARDING HOTMIX CLAIMING NOVICE DRIVERS – 2297 METRES

SIGN OF ORO - Trainer Ben Yole advised Stewards that the gelding will be driven further forward tonight, circumstances permitting.Driver Jack Laugher attempted to carry out the pre-race instructions however after showing gate speed and racing five wide into the first turn Mr Laugher then restrained the gelding to the tail of the field.

NO UNDIES SUNDIE – Broke free of interference near the 900 metre mark and has been placed on its last chance to race truly.

SIGN NO MORE – Refused to score up and caused a false start on the first occasion, has been placed outside the draw for future mobile start events.

FLYLIKA HAWK – Driver Taylor Ford pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 149(1) for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measure to win or obtain the best possible placing in the field. The particulars being that as the driver of FLYLIKA HAWK Miss Ford on the first turn elected to shift from a three wide position to a four wide position which Stewards state was not a reasonable or a permissible action. This not only disadvantaged Miss Ford’s runner by giving up any opportunity to gain a forward position the actions also advantaged another runner in BLACK SADDLE, as that horse was able to progress to a forward position, furthermore after restraining to the rear of the field Miss Ford then failed to take a reasonable and permissible opportunity to progress along the marker pegs to a midfield position when clearly available and by both of these actions Miss Ford failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures to win or obtain the best possible placing in the field. Miss Ford had her driver’s licence suspended for a period of 12 race dates, commencing midnight 20 March 2016 and expiring midnight 13 May 2016. In determining penalty Stewards considered Miss Ford’s guilty plea, her overall driving experience, her recent poor record under this rule in that this was her third offence under this or a similar rule in the space of two months and the grossly culpable nature of the drive.

RACE 7 – MAXFIELD DRILLING CLAIMER – 2297 METRES

OUR ARCHANGEL – Driver Kristy Grant pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 163(1)(b) for making DELIVERTHEGOODS cover more ground than necessary prior to the candy pole. The particulars being that after entering the home straight when receiving the bell OUR ARCHANGEL shifted from the running line position to a three wide position forcing DELIVERTHEGOODS to race in a four wide position for the length of the home straight. Miss Grant had her driver’s licence suspended for a period of two dates commencing at midnight on 18 March 2016 and expiring at midnight on 27 March 2016.

PHILTRA PHELLA –Held up between runners and broke entering the home straight on the final occasion as the gelding had a tendency to hang out, and as a result made contact with the cart of OUR ARCHANGEL who at the same time had a tendency to hang in. Stewards noted this as a racing incident and no further action was taken against PHILTRA PHELLA for breaking gait.

RACE 8 – CORROSION TECHNOLOGY MOBILE DIVISION ONE – 1930 METRES

HEY JO – Driver Adrian Collins pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 163(1)(a) for causing interference, the particulars being that as the driver of HEY JO he shifted from the marker pegs to a running line position when insufficiently clear of HELLO PRINCESS resulting in that mare being tightened between HEY JO and MAYBE CHARLI, and then making contact with the sulky of HEY JO resulting in HELLO PRINCESS breaking gait and losing its rightful position. Driver Adrian Collins had his licence suspended for a period of three race dates commencing on midnight 20 March 2016 and expiring at midnight on 3 April 2016.

JUDYS JET - Driver Mark Yole was queried in regards to the improved performance of the filly tonight. Mr Yole stated that the filly has improved with a change of stables and benefitted from being in a smaller stable.

TWENTYTHREERED – Tired from the 300 metres to be beaten 59 metres, has been stood down from racing for a period of 10 days and until the completion of a satisfactory trial.

RACE 9 – TASMANIAN HORSE TRANSPORT MOBILE DIVISION TWO – 2297 METRES

KOUPER BAILEY – Displayed at tendency to hang out at various stages throughout the race.

UNCLE BUZZ - Displayed a tendency to hang out at various stages throughout the race. Tired from the 500 metres to be beaten 95 metres, has been stood down from racing for a period of 10 days and until the completion of a satisfactory trial.

MASTER CHARLIE – An inquiry will be held with Driver John Walters in regards to his use of the whip on this gelding during the event.

ESQUIVO – Tired from the 400 metres to be beaten by 63 metres, has been placed on its last chance to race truly.

RACE 10 – CORROSION TECHNOLOGY MOBILE DIVISION TWO – 1930 METRES

PAGLIACCI, EMPIRE RAINBOW and THE SNIPER MAN – Out of position at the start and no action was taken against the drivers of these horses as the mobile barrier had commenced to move off whilst these horses weren’t fully in their positions.

BALDOCK – Broke free of interference racing into the first and was placed on its last chance to race truly. Held up for clear racing room and unable to be fully tested in the run to line.
