2010 SeasonBRFC20 March Place, Belfast, Christchurch, 03 323 8024

From the ChairIt is absolutely great that we have gone back to putting out our newsletter and thanks to Gail for compiling it all. All Team Managers (Senior Club) are expected to contribute and it can be anything relevant to their team.

Our points system will start this weekend the 24 April 2010 for the Presidents Challenge Cup which also includes a bar tab for the winning team. The referees have agreed to assess each team’s performance on the day so each Team Manager will have to ensure that an assessment card is completed by their referee. This form will be obtainable from Norma or Mike in the Office and failure to have them filled out will result in nil points being credited to that team and any other punishment that Executive deems appropriate. Points will also be allocated for participation and results at our in-club functions. The idea of this Challenge is to create “friendly” inter team rivalry. The wining team will have the Cup and their bar tab presented at the Club end of year dinner.

It is very pleasing to see our Div6 and Div3 sides continuing on their winning way with both teams still retaining their respective shields.

On the other hand I am absolutely at a loss with our Senior side. When I look at the team makeup and the known ability of our players I am at a complete loss as to why we are not achieving better results. To see the Sumner side come in dressed in Polos but looking very smart and still giving our team a lesson in rugby makes one wonder if too much emphasis is placed on off field attire.

Colts – you guys have a real uphill battle being in Div1 but we can all ready see signs of improvement and I know that you will all continue to improve and will do the Club proud.

Women – once again Div1 you are aiming high especially with all the youth that you have in the team but there is a lot of talent and it can only get better for you all.

Div2 – Boys stick with it, I know that you have to step up at times to support Div1 and it does make it hard for you to have a constructed team at times but it looks like fitness may be your biggest concern. There is no doubt that wins will come your way as you get into 80 minute mode.

Cheers to all, Pilks

Dave Pilkington, Chairperson, BRFC Executive

U9’s GreenWell it's great to get another season underway. This year has seen the return of a majority of last year’steam and we also have some new members that have joined the club.
New players to join the Under 9 Green team this year are Zak Cummings, Ben Langley, Cameron Newman, Kaleb Reihana, Louis Ryu and Jordan Scott.
Our players from last year’s team are William Ayrey, Jack Baker, Nathan Batchelor, Joel Cameron, Conor Hill, Lucas Johnson, James Lancaster, Jacob Laurenson, Caleb McMullen, Liam Nugent and Asher Seymour.
Our 1st per-season game against the Saracen's went very well with some great tackling, excellent running and plenty of Belfast try's!!. Our 1st grading game wasn't as successful against Marist's but we have a good base to work on.
This year we are splitting the team into forwards and backs which will allow specific skills to be developed. Our trainings are well underway with great attendance so far this season.
We have a very good bunch of supportive parents that I am sure will be entertained each Saturday as the season progresses.
All players have been wrapped to get new jersey's this year and they all really liked their Belfast Club tee-shirts. It is great that the club can provide these.
I am looking forward to an enjoyable season and I am sure we will see some great skills developed and a number of rising stars in the team!!
Coach Kris Lancaster

U 15’sHello from the 2010 Traveling Team

The U15 team has been fundraising since the end of last season as the U15 traveling teams always do. We have had a core of 15 players over the summer and nearly all of them played touch at Belfast. We had 3 teams entered in the competition and had a few other boys from the area playing for us to make up the numbers. They also did some fitness work with Mike Rowe and completed a 10km sponsored run in Burwood Forest in March. Fundraising for the Australian trip is going well and is over the $20k now. The largest amount of sausages cooked and sold in one day was over 1100, which was at Willowbank on Waitangi Day. We are at the stage of organizing the big raffle and want to have it out before club day on the 29th May. We need a few extras on the 6th May for marshalling the SBS Marathon so if you can help one of the boys get a few points let us now.

Our playing team this year is only sitting at 17 so far .We are gravely short of backs and are looking for 3 or 4 more to make up our squad. New players are welcome to travel on the Aussie trip if they want but it is not compulsory .We have plenty of fundraising they and their families can do to get them there.

So far this season we have placed 3rd at the sevens and had a good win against the Saracens with the help of some U14 backs. We have played one grading game so far against Hornby who won Div 2 last year and have an improved side this year. We held them to a creditable 5 all at half time but they ran away with it 46-15 in the second half. We have the basis of a great team and should have a good season ahead of us.

Coach Garry Hutt

U18'sWe have had 2 pre-season games and one grading game. We have retained the core of players from last season and gained several new players making a squad of approximately 25. We are looking forward to a rewarding year.

Div 2Division 2 has struggled for numbers at training and games so far this year but this has not lessened the commitment and endeavour. This is my first year at Belfast and I am impressed with the feeling around the club, I have felt welcome by all. Our captain this year is Blake (aka rogue) with Rory as our vice captain.

Sloaney was a stand-out performer in our first game against a very good Suburbs team which we lost by too much. Our next game was against Brighton and at the break we were ahead 12-11 but faded in the last 30min to lose by 15 points, player of the day with 2 tries was Matu.

Huge thanks to Bull-frog for managing our team this year your help is invaluable and appreciated.

The team is coached by myself (Chris Harpur) and Chris Boivan. We are on the lookout for some tight forwards that want to challenge themselves in division 2 so if you’re interested contact Chris Harpur on 02102713657

Coach Chris Harpur

Div 12010 has seen the return of the majority of players from last year along with some new additions. Andrew McGuire has returned from his OE to once again captain the Div 1 team. At this point the team would like to congratulate Andrew and his wife Charlotte on the safe arrival of their baby girl Sophie Rose on Sunday 18th April.

The start of the 2010 season has not bought the results the team were looking for but team spirit remains high and through continual hard work results will come.

We would like to wish all teams the best of luck for the season and look forward to your support.

Women’sHiya from the ladies; just a very brief insight to the women's side at this earlystage.. We had a ten's tourney last weekend held at Denton Park- we went through undefeatedwe came away with someawesome wins.. winning the Div 2 ‘tourney’ great start..Saturday just gone was the start of our competition - they have put us back up in Division 1 section so we are pretty stoked about that.. We played Sydenham which we were hoping for!!as we wanted to get them out of the way first up; we knew they were going to be ourhardest team. They have been the Div 1 champs for several years- they alsohaveseveral black ferns on their side- whichthey had to bring back from aweek long NZ camp to play us.. if they hadn't they might not havebeen able to field a team by what we saw... We went down 32-12 we are very pleased with the scoreit tells us that we are not too far off the mark. We have some very young players coming through our sidewhich we are very excited about, they will be future NPC andBLACK FERNS..Our vision thisside of the seasonis to be top4 then anything after that is a bonus....
