Theater Education Intern

Signature Theatre is seeking a Education and Community Program Intern for the summer of 2011. The successful candidate will work closely with Signature’s Education Director, Marcia Gardner to administer Signature’s Overtures and Stage One artist training programs, conduct research, analyze and record survey results, prepare reports, and write materials for Signature's lauded SIGNATURE IN THE SCHOOLS program study guide for Signature's award-winning, arts-education program with Arlington County Public Schools. The intern will also assist in developing Signature's community outreach programs for the 2011/2012 season including programming and documentation for the Open House and Summer Concert.

Program Qualifications:

All HSC Internship applicants must:

·  be between the ages of 18 and 25;

·  have a documented disability or chronic illness; and

·  demonstrate an interest in the arts.

Placement Qualifications:

·  Applicants must be a current college student or college graduate

·  Knowledge of or experience in musical theater or the performing arts.

·  Excellent communication and writing skills and a proficiency in Microsoft Office, or other word processing software, and Microsoft Excel.

·  The ability to multi-task, work a flexible schedule, solve problems creatively, and “self-start” projects with a positive attitude.

1) explain your specific interest in theater or the performing arts;

2) summarize your work experience to date and illustrate what strengths you would bring to this internship;

3) what do you expect to gain from this internship?

4) What about the program specifically interests you?

Length of Internship: Approximately 12 weeks

Start and End Dates: May to August 2011

Hours: 30-40 hours per week

Stipend: varies depending upon hours

Location/Transportation: This placement is at Signature Theater in Arlington, Virginia. The theater is accessible via Metro Bus and free parking is available in an adjacent garage.
