A HOUSE RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE LEGENDARY GOSPEL SINGERS KNOWN AS THE SIX VOICES OF ZION, AND TO WELCOME THIS SOUTH CAROLINA TREASURE TO BETHLEHEM BAPTIST CHURCH ON APRIL 20, 2008.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that the Voices of Zion will present a gospel concert at Bethlehem Baptist Family Life Center on Sunday, April 20, 2008; and
Whereas, the Six Voices of Zion was organized in 1958 by Mr. Jimmy Augusta, and in 1959 Mr. Andrew Evans joined the group as manager, and he continues to manage the rich and widely ranging voices today; and
Whereas, Mr. Andrews attributes their success as trumpeters of gospel songs to allowing God to be first in everything they do and to being men of character who have earned the respect of others; and
Whereas, they recorded their first album in 1967, and are well known for their song “He’ll Help Me Along the Way” on their album Thank You, Jesus. Throughout their fiftyyear history, these men have sung with other notable gospel groups; and
Whereas, with one member who has passed to be with the Lord and one who has moved to Texas, the Six Voices of Zion today includes Mr. Lonnie Nesbitt, Mr. Charlie Brown, Mr. Vesco Faulks, Mr. Leslie Fisher, Mr. Julius Daniels, Mr. Cornell Jeffcoat, Mr. David Lee, Mr. Dreek, and Mr. James Wilson; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciate the ministry in song of the Six Voices of Zion to the citizens of South Carolina, and in the words of the sweet songwriter of Israel in Psalm 137:3, these gospel singers have sung “us one of the songs of Zion.” Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the legendary gospel singers known as the Six Voices of Zion, and welcome this South Carolina treasure to Bethlehem Baptist Church on April 20, 2008.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Bethlehem Baptist Church.
