Remuneration Package: $ 101,171.20 per annum.

  • New appointments are probationary for the first 6 months with Staff performance appraisal at 3 and 6 months during probation and 6 monthly thereafter.

Primary Position Objective:

To provide leadership in a structured strength based counselling approach (trauma-informed care) to young people aged 12-25years in managing their substance use (alcohol, drugs and volatile substances) and co-morbid complexities (mental health, family, social, environmental, legal) contributing to sustainable behavioural change outcomes.

BushMob is a community based service located in Alice Springs NT Australia. BushMob was developed by young people and their families in 1999 to assist young people make informed life choices and to learn behaviours and life skills to create a better life for themselves. We run a 20-bed residential treatment Facility; Bush Adventure Therapy and Outreach Program, Media and Music Program; Horse Culture Healing Program.

SELECTION CRITERIA

  1. A degree in Social Work with Mental Health Accreditation, and membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
  2. Eligibility to obtain a Medicare Provider Number and bill for services.
  3. Highly developed interpersonal and team skills to establish and maintain constructive working relationships within multi-skilled professional and non-professional teams.
  4. Sound knowledge of current best practice regarding therapeutic counselling and their application with clients aged 12 -25 years.
  5. Demonstrated experience in completing assessments, developing treatment plans and implementing interventions using evidence-based practise.
  6. Experience in group therapy and resource development for group sessions.
  7. Demonstrated ability to build external relationships to assist and support effective client pathways across sectors, services and geographic locations.
  8. Awareness of Aboriginal culture, understanding of cultural sensitivities and current issues affecting Australian Aboriginal people.
  9. High level organisation, self-presentation, written and oral communication skills with evident ability of reflection, articulation and recording of professional duties.
  10. Current Driver’s licence.
  11. Current Senior First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain.
  12. Current National Police Clearance; Current NT Safe Working with Children Card or willingness to obtain.

Desirable:

  1. Living or working in remote areas including 4WD driving experience.
  2. Willingness to work with animals (horses) and travel to remote locations with BushMob staff.

Duty Description – BushMob Mental Health Social Worker

  • Develop position and trauma-informed care service provision to suite BushMob Strategic Plan and Model whilst utilising trauma informed care principles as identified by Hopper et al (2010):

 1. Trauma awareness. 2. Emphasis on safety. 3. Opportunities to rebuild control. 4. Utilizing a strength based approach.

  • Work with, supervise and build effective Case Management Team.
  • Learn and follow BushMob Policy, Procedures and Code Of Conduct.
  • Work with all BushMob Program staff and young people to deliver optimum care for young people accessing BushMob services.
  • Provide counselling assisting Young People (clients) aged 12-25 years and at times their families in managing their substance use and co-morbid complexities. Goal of 20 counselling sessions per week in total.
  • Provide clients with: assessments; care and exit plans; counselling sessions; prevention and early intervention strategies; information and education; health promotion; harm minimisation strategies; family mediation.
  • Support Young People and their families recover from trauma through fostering: engagement; establishing safety; provision of psychoeducation; improving distress tolerance skills; strengthening social connectedness; providing trauma specific interventions; relapse prevention strategies.
  • Assist Young People maintain cultural identity, foster opportunities for cultural enrichment, encourage family and land connection.
  • Network with external professionals, agencies, services and departments
  • Support Young people on Bail and work with Community Correction Officer’s, Lawyers and Judges to best support young people in the juvenile justice system.
  • Facilitate AOD and other group therapy sessions and further develop group session resources with staff and young people.
  • Work with HR Manager and CEO to develop BushMob Therapy, counselling and case management resources which are culturally appropriate and in line with BushMob model.
  • Work with HR Manager to develop staff support strategies in: professional development; clinical supervision; quality improvement; self-care promotion.
  • Enter and maintain all relevant client data within the Alcohol and Other Drugs National Minimum Data Set (NMDS). Work with CEO, HR Manager and Facility Manager develop outcomes/impact evaluations involving research.
  • Attend: Internal Case Management and Staff meetings; externals meetings.
  • Be on the Emergency On-Call Roster for the Residential Treatment Facility.
  • Write a weekly report to BushMob CEO, HR and Facility Manager.
  • Fee-For-Service option for counselling external clients.
