A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST WISHES OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SENATE TO REVEREND BLAKELY N. SCOTT AND THE MEMBERS OF ZION MOUNT MORIAH BAPTIST CHURCH OF RICHLAND COUNTY AS THEY DEDICATE THE CHURCH’S NEW SANCTUARY ON JUNE 24, 2001.

Whereas, Zion Mount Moriah Baptist Church was organized in 1877 during the post‑reconstruction period that followed the American Civil War; and

Whereas, over its one hundred twenty‑four year history, the following eleven pastors have led Zion Mount Moriah Baptist Church: Reverend Simon Jenkins, Reverend George Washington Taylor, Reverend Oliver H. Hopkins, Reverend Andrew Richbourg, Reverend Daniel Boyd, Reverend William Lowman, Reverend Spencer Adams, Reverend Pelham Jones, Reverend Harrison Gallman, Reverend Westbury H. Neal, and its current pastor, Reverend Blakely N. Scott; and

Whereas, its first sanctuary was completed in 1890, rebuilt in 1959, and renovated in 1968 and 1986. Planning for the construction of a new sanctuary began in 1995; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are delighted to learn that on June 24, 2001, Reverend Blakely N. Scott and the congregation of Zion Mount Moriah Baptist Church will celebrate the dedication of its new sanctuary. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Reverend Blakely N. Scott and the members of Zion Mount Moriah Baptist Church of Richland County as they dedicate the church’s new sanctuary on June 24, 2001.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Reverend Blakely N. Scott.
