Liaison Reports

Council Member Karen L. Hershey reported that Culture & Heritage will hold a wine tasting fund raiser on Thursday, April 21, from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM at the Caffe Italia on Route 37 Westbound just east of Coolidge Avenue. Ms. Hershey noted that March is Women’s History Month and the main Ocean County Library in TomsRiver will conduct relevant programs. Ms. Hershey also said that the IslandHeights library branch will host a program called Adventures in Genealogy on Monday, March 21 at 7:00 PM.

Privilege of the Floor

These subjects were discussed during Privilege of the Floor:

Al Gabriel, the borough’s clerk of the works for the River Avenue boardwalk project reported that the project is ahead of schedule. He said 1,040 feet of decking had been completed. Mr. Gabriel said he welcomed visitors to the site.

Other topics discussed included:

Geese and waterfowl at the municipal complex, Long Point and on the boardwalk between Central and Simpson Avenues (see action item below).

Adopt Resolution 2005 – 14 entitled, RESOLUTION OF THE BOROUGH OF ISLANDHEIGHTS, COUNTY OF OCEAN, STATE OF

NEW JERSEY, ALLOWING RESIDENTS TO WALK LEASHED DOGS ON MUNICIPAL COMPLEX UNTIL MAY 1, 2005.

Summary: The Mayor and Council unanimously approved a resolution allowing residents to walk leashed dogs on the municipal complex field until May 1, 2005. This resolution resulted from discussions during privilege of the floor concerning unhealthy conditions at the municipal complex due to the increase in geese frequenting the area. Since the geese fear dogs, it was decided to lift the ban on dog walking at the municipal complex. The action is temporary and its effectiveness will be reviewed in May.
