MINUTES OF THE 21st ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

SUNDAY 2 APRIL 2017 - HOTEL REMBRANDT WEYMOUTH

MEMBERS PRESENT AND APOLOGIES
  1. 90 members and guests attended the Association dinner in the Chesham Suite, Hotel Rembrandt, Weymouth. On Saturday 1 April 2017, 27 members and guests attended the guided tour of the Tank Museum at Bovington and 45 attended the AGM on Sunday 2nd April 2017.
  1. Apologies were received from various members including, Roger Bennett, Martin Blazey, Richard Brown, Keith Brownlie, Brian Rouxell, Steve Cheetham, Chris Crossland, Peter Loughlan, Ted Maley, Dave Rawlings, Adrian Salmon, John Scott, Jeff Sandercock, Alan Terry, Reg Wilkinson.

BEREAVEMENTS

  1. The Secretary informed that the following Association members / comrades passed away in the last year;
  2. SSgt Tony Mitchel ex STRE & Shooting Team
  3. Major Ian Webster ex 111
  4. Peter Wotton ex Training Team
  5. Brian Murphy ex 111 RAPC (2009/2010)

ACCEPTANCE OF MINUTES

  1. The minutes of the AGM in Lichfield on 17th April 2016 were accepted as a true record.

CHAIRMAN’S REPORT

  1. The Chairman gave his verbal report at the Association dinner on 1 April 2017.
  1. The Chairman thanked the members present and Committee for their support and looked forward to meeting them again at the next function.
  1. The Chairman outlined the continued cooperation with 170 Engr Gp, Chilwell. Arthur McLean and Steve Brocklebank as serving 170 officers, maintain our link with 170 which includes joint web portal cooperation, this done in liaison with our Web Master Alan Edwards.

ELECTION OF COMMITTEE

  1. The following committee members were re-elected;

  1. Perry Dawson, was invited by the Chairman, onto the Committee, with the role of giving our junior ranks a voice and the opportunity to bring new ideas and proposals for consideration.

MEMBERSHIP UPDATE

  1. The Association has an active list of 163 members. 4 new members attended the weekend and will be added to the active list by the Membership Secretary
  1. The December mail shot to members will include an invite to the Year 2018 function.

13. The Membership Secretary advised that mailshots including invites to the next annual function, will continue be sent out by email to reduce costs, or by post if no email address is held.

FINANCIAL STATEMENT

14.The Treasurer, Terry Randerson prepared the financial statement to 31 December 2016, which was issued at the AGM. This confirmed that the General Purpose Fund was in credit with a balance of £2,744 (£1998 as at 2015). The meeting formally approved the financial statement and thanked the Treasurer for his hard work in maintaining the necessary financial controls.

15.The income from the previous evening’s raffle was £450. The Chairman thanked Jeff Guilbert for running the raffle.

CONSTITUTIONAL MATTERS

16. Not used

2018 AND FUTURE FUNCTIONS

17.The AGM approved the Committee’s recommendations to hold annual reunions 22 and 23 as follows:

  1. 22 to 24 April 2018, in suitable Best Western hotel, in the North West.
  2. 5 to 7 April 2019 Hotel Rembrandt, Weymouth.

18. Jeff Guilbert requested permission to investigate potential future reunion locations in Europe and report back to the Committee. This was agreed.

WEB SITE

19. The Web Master gave his report and advised that our website hits has tailed off at 350 to 400 per month.

20. The Web Master advised that photographs of interest to the Association are regularly uploaded to the website. Thanks go to Sandy Gibson, who took photographs at the Association dinner night and to the Web Master who will upload the photographs onto the website.

21. A draft copy of the Hotel Rembrandt AGM minutes and invite to the 2018 reunion will also be uploaded to the website.

OTHER BUSINESS

  1. The President, Colonel Graham Edwards, informed the Committee that he has, for sale, two remaining copies of the History of CVHQRE but that further copies are available from the Institution of Royal Engineers for £5 plus postage.
  1. Bob Larcombe to investigate procuring a further batch of Association ties from Corps Enterprises.

FUTURE MEETINGS

  1. The next Committee meeting will be held, on Saturday 18 November 2017.
  1. The next AGM will be held at the reunion weekend in April 2018.

CLOSING STATEMENT

  1. The President in his closing statement, said it had been a splendid weekend with exceptional attendance and that the dinner and hotel had been excellent. He thanked the Chairman and Committee for their hard work in arranging it.
