1)Welcome and agenda – Kevin Sykes and Erick Underwood

2)Presentation on fundraising (revenue) and expenses – 2016/2017 See attached presentation by Erick Underwood

Total balance of uncommitted funds for 2017/2018 is $3400

Total in bank account is $14 460.79 See report for committed funds

Over all for QV is to have lower push fundraising because of the social economics of our school in order to not pressure QV parents at the same time as fundraising for the key aspects (as voted on) for the school spread across the grades such as physical activity 1/3, music and art 1/3 and technology 1/3

a) Key fundraisers have been:

  • Dance a thon
  • Picnic: raffle, food, and activities

b) Raises funds for:

STEAM (see website for what this is) – great report from Jan the librarian (21 workshops) and well attended

  • Traditional commitment for the parent council to support this

Field for south side of the school

Commitment to $10 000

Past – music keyboard, computers (lap top cart), sports equipment with new grade 7&8 students, murals,

Key activities have been

  • Movie nights

4)Allocations for 2017/2018

$10 000 for Computer Cart

5)Report from Ward 7 - n/a for this meeting

6)Principal report – See handouts that are attached

a) Activities at the school

Terry Fox Run

Open House

Cross Country team, Soccer, Running and Reading, MJKO boxing….School is permitted every night pre much

b) Enrollment

Predicted 796

Enrolled 798

Great news = no changes

Question about librarian – do we get a full time librarian? Is there anything we can do to support this?

Response: Only top 7 schools get a full librarian

Have Ward 7 push, did happen, didn’t change anything.

c) New teachers – see report

d) Construction Update

Combination of salt content (needed to remediate), then digging unearth unstable foundation of previous school (knew it was there, did not know that the amount of unsafe construction garbage was there

Field installation by end of November

NO ACTION

e) EQAO – and learning skills – Compared the learning skills and the EQAO results to make sure there is a positive correlation between those who got a high number in EQAO was positively correlated with a G(ood) or E(xcellent) on learning skills

FINDING: There is a correlation meaning that teachers are grading accurately in comparison with a province-wide standardized testing process/students learning skills are aligned with standardized testing

f) Budget

Draft budget laid out by next school council meeting there will be final budget

Funds to apply for 7&8

Student Success

Mental Health and Wellbeing

QV School Applied last year and received $7000

Model Schools Budget – this is a transition budget

QV will be receiving $12 000 for 2017/2018

-with a review of all Equity processes in TDSB being done

Confident that we will be able to continue to do what the school has laid out in the budget

Ex. Toronto Island Camp, continue with hearing and vision, afterschool learning program, Parent Academy, Doctor once a month at student support mtg. (includes psychologist, social worker, teachers, vice principal) and Fun pass,

QUESTION: Where is the Community Support Worker?

Answer: Two new people are being hired

QUESTION: Any update from the Equity Task Force

Madeline did not have an update

Kevin Sykes and Erick Underwood did have a conversation with Equity Task Force member (who is an outside group to the TDSB), need name and minutes from meeting. Robyn Pilkey pushed for the meeting to happen with Kevin S and Erick U.

ACTION: Need name and contact of individual and notes from mtg

QUESTION: What happened to the Regent Park School of Music?

Madeline met with Richard from RPSM, the RPSM

Piano and Ukulele were highest attended at QV and the board of RPSM moved the org to another community.

-in summer parent spoke to RPSM

ACTION: Parent Council will support a music program coming in again, like RPSM or Comparable program – this will go to Executive? Or next meeting? This action will be supported by the administration and school.

Equity Point made that active advocacy by the parents of QV is not always something that can happen with the many barriers experienced by parents.

ACTION: Chess Institute is going to be asked back by a combination between parent council and administration.

Student Nutrition Program

-Stove is here and will be put in place in the next two weeks and students will be receiving a hot lunch brought from Parkdale.
