Committee Meeting Minutes

Wednesday, January 18, 2017

The meeting was called to order at approximately 6:55. Presiding was Norm Yost and in attendance were: Mary Beth Bushall, Jim Westerman, Jack Nichols, Steve Jackson, Erik Ramsland, Brian Arnett, Francis Devereux, Brian Reed, Sandy Sushko, Sherrie Woods, Steve Sullivan and Jamie Ayd, November’s Meeting Minutes stood approved.

1. Treasurer’s Report: Checkbook Balance: $2207.30

2. Fundraising/Donation:

Once again, Tom Burke gave a $300 donation to our troop. A thank you letter will be sent via the secretary.

Our Third annual Basket Bingo made a profit of $2267.00. A big THANK YOU to Jen Arnett for organizing this event for our troop again this year. Also, thanks to all of the families who requested and collected donations, filled baskets, and sold tickets. This event would not be such a success with out everyone’s contributions. A date for our Fourth Basket Bingo will be scheduled in the near future. A committee for the Bingo will be organized in the next few months. Please consider volunteering to help with our largest fundraiser of the year.

Log Cabin Candy Sales: Thank you Debby Kelly for organizing our sales again this year. Individual sale order forms for friends and family will be given out at the 1/22/17 troop meeting. Please bring your order form to the 2/19 troop meeting. An inventory will be collected of what has been sold so far so that we can order a starting inventory for our church show and sells. Church show and sells will take place on Saturday, March 4th and Sunday, March 5th as well as Saturday, March 11th and Sunday, March 12th.. Final orders for individual sales will be due on 3/12. More information will be forthcoming from Debby.

3. Recruitment:

  • 6 scouts from Pack 83 visited our troop on 1/15. The Den leader will be in touch if they are interested in joining our troop in March.
  • Pack 809 will be setting up to visit our troop in the near future.

4. Troop Meetings: Our Regular meetings begin at 6:00pm

5. Troop Leadership Positions:

  • Elections for new leadership positions took place on 9/18/16. A new leadership organizational chart has been posted on the website. The rank listed on this chart reflects the rank as of the election date. Changes to the rank will not be changed until the following election. Please remember to use the scout handbook to monitor and keep track of your leadership positions held for each rank.

6.Completed Activities:

  • 12/10 – Christmas Party at the Jackson’s
  • 1/7 - Part 1 of the Elkton Merit Badge College

7. Troop Outings – Scheduled:

  • 1/27 – 1/29 – Icicle at Broad Creek – Steve Sullivan
  • 2/10 –Snow tubing – Karina and Sherrie – Sign up via Shutterfly: invite sent1/22
  • 2/18 – Earth Treks – Francis – Respond to email sent by Francis on 1/22
  • 2/25 - Part 2 of the Elkton Merit Badge College
  • 2/26 – Chartered Diner @ 5:00 with set up at 4:30 – Debbie Sullivan. A sign up will be forthcoming.
  • 3/17 - 3/19 – No meeting – Cabin Camping Rodney
  • 7/23 - 7/29 – Heritage Scout Reservation– Camp Freedom and Eagle Base - An email was sent by Erik on 1/19. Please respond accordingly.

9. Troop Service Work/Projects:

The Christian Outreach Program at St. Mary’s Church will need help on:

  • 4/7 @ 7pm: Both scouts and adults are needed to sort groceries at the church in the hall for Easter.
  • 4/8 @ 8:00 to 11am: Both scouts and adults are needed to handout groceries at the church in the hall for Easter.
  • 4/29 - Chicken dinner parking. - St. Mary's will hold their annual chicken dinner. The church will require 8 -10 scouts to help with parking cars. Scouts will be able to sign for a parking shift. Shifts will be from 10-2 and from 2-6.

10. Troop Equipment:

  • A mess kit will be needed for future camping trips. Please make sure your scout has one.
  • First aid kits need to be checked and any supplies purchased prior to next camping event. Steve Jackson has donated a first aid kit as well. Thank You!
  • 4 screens will be ordered to replace the glass globes after the icicle trip.
  • New pots and pans will be purchased when needed.
  • Please remember that scouts must return all supplies following a campout to the troop storage room at the very next scheduled troop meeting. The Quartermasters and ASPL will start checking supplies for cleanliness and also ensuring that tents have all parts and been properly aired and dried out.
  • Quartermasters are responsible for knowing who has the troop’s equipment.

11. Roundtable:

12. Training:

  • Please make sure your Youth Protection Training is up to date. It is required annually for the Baltimore Area Council.
  • Looking into board of review training to help committee members during the board of review process.

13. Eagle Scout News:

  • Orion Barbalate: His project book has been approved and recommendation letters have been sent out and are due 1/31/17.
  • Brian Knight: Board of Review scheduled for 1/24/17 at 7:00
  • Dominick Bushall:Board of Review scheduled for 1/23/17 at 7:00
  • James Sullivan – potential project @ St. Paul’s Church
  • Zach Jackson - potential project @ Hidden Valley
  • Garrett Arnet - potential project @ St, Mary’s Church

15. Miscellaneous:

Steve Sullivan sent an email with a link to the working 2017 calendar on 1/13/17. Keep in mind, this is a working calendar and changes may occur. Any changes made to the calendar will be automatically changed and can be viewed using this link. If you did not receive this email, please email Steve Sullivan.

Our next committee meeting is scheduled for February 15, 2017 @ 6:45 at St. Mary’s Church. With no further business the meeting was adjourned at 9:00.
