Job Summary

As a member of the Multi-disciplinary Teams, work with colleagues to provide spiritual, religious support to patients and carers.

Key Tasks

1. To provide for the spiritual, religious and pastoral needs of patients and carers.

2. As part of a team including social workers and occupational therapist to provide anticipatory grief support for relatives of Hospice patients as required, in collaboration with the Just’B’ Service

3. To work alongside the patient care team in the provision of holistic patient care.

4.To develop and implement a sub-strategy for the future direction of chaplaincy across Saint Michael’s to support the achievement of the overarching organisational strategy.

4. To provide education and training for staff in the importance of spiritual care and participate in the education programmes and seminars organised by the Hospice. To support visiting students as necessary.

5. To liaise with parish clergy and faith leaders concerning the needs of patients and work to build good communication and relationships with local faith groups, churches and the community.

6. To work effectively with volunteers ensuring that they are managed, motivated and monitored in such a way that they are able to contribute to the achievement of agreed Hospice strategy

7. To maintain links with professional colleagues and bodies such as local and national groups for Hospice Chaplains, representing the hospice on such forums.

8. As part of the multidisciplinary team, attend and contribute to the meetings that discuss and audit patient needs to ensure the highest quality of service to patients and carers.

9. To work with line manger to ensure appropriate training and seminars are attended to meet the required CPD standards.

Person Specification

Essential Education and Qualifications / Educated to degree level or similar
Ordained Christian minister of a recognised Christina group, able to practise in this setting with the authority of the relevant denomination

Knowledge and understanding of end of life care
