The "Patriot"News / October 2009
/ A NOTE FROM OUR PRESIDENT
I once saw a bumper sticker that said "What if volunteer firefighters didn't volunteer?" It got me thinking! Can you imagine if your house was on fire, you dialed 911 and the Whitehall volunteer firefighters said that they weren't coming today and that someone else would take care of it. I know that for me that would be a helpless feeling.
A little less severe question would be "What if the active volunteers at Schadt Avenue Park didn't volunteer"?
DID YOU KNOW...
1.) The Schadt Avenue Park & Playground is an all-volunteer organization.
2.) This past spring over 220 young children participated in our baseball & softball program. This represents roughly 140 families who are members of the Schadt Avenue Park & Playground Association.
3.) Approximately 100 young children attend our annual holiday party & spring Easter Egg Hunt.
4.) Our end of season pool party was so well attended that we finished 50 pizzas, ordered 10 more, and quickly finished them.
5.) The Schadt Avenue Park and Playground Association holds a monthly meeting to plan our sports activities, holiday events, and discuss capital improvements to the park and playground. This meeting is held on the third Monday of each month at 7:30 PM.
6.) Only 6 people attended our September 21, 2009 meeting, and only 8 people attended the prior two meetings!
We're at a crossroads in our organization as evidenced by the small participation in our monthly meetings. I joined the Schadt Avenue Board because we had a large and active group of volunteers. Times have changed and we're now in dire need for more people to become involved in running our youth sports programs and playground activities. The next few months are critical as we review our 2009 season, generate ideas for improvement, and focus on our playground and holiday events. To continue to thrive as a park & playground, we really need your help. We have openings on most of our committees and there are many critical positions that only require a short time commitment each month.
Please join us at our next monthly meetings held on Monday, October 19 and November 16 at 7:30 PM.
Thanks for listening, now please take some action!

SCHADT AVE. WRAPS UP 3RD FALL BALL SEASON...
The Schadt Avenue Boys baseball program recently completed its 3rd Fall Baseball program. Over 30 boys participated in Fall Baseball at the Midget (10-12) and Knee Hi (13-16) levels. The boys all played in the newly formed Allen Township Fall Baseball League. The goal for the fall baseball program is to provide an opportunity for those children not involved in other fall sports to play baseball. The focus of the fall program is to teach and have fun - which was quite evident to anyone who happened to watch one of these teams practicing or playing at Schadt Avenue between the months of August and September. The one constant throughout the fall season was the apparent love of baseball shared by players and coaches alike. Many of the players and coaches had just completed the lengthy spring season, only to retake the field at the end of July. Many thanks go out to all of the players, parents and coaches who have made the fall baseball program at Schadt Avenue a great success!

GIRLS SOFTBALL UPDATE...
The Girls softball program at Schadt Avenue for the 2009 season had 5 teams participate in the Parkland League. We had 2 Prep level teams along with a 10U, 12U and a 14U team. The 10U,12U and 14U teams all participated in the playoffs this year.I would like to congratulate all the girls who participated on those teams. We also have one 14u team playing in the Fall Ball League currently.
