Objective:

To encourage and recognise the district's young entrepreneurs, promote businesses and strengthen community ties.

Criteria:

A student who within (such as a school project) and/or outside school:

1.  has demonstrated excellent business acumen

2.  possesses an innovative mind for business-related issues

3.  is a current/future entrepreneur

4.  has distinguished him/herself in employment

Some distinction areas include:

A.  may design and sell their own products

B.  outside-the-box thinking in solving an operational or administrative problem

C.  may have created a solution to resolve a business-related issue using technology

D.  employer recognition of excellence in employee performance.

E.  outstanding results in school business-related subjects

Process:

High Schools will nominate up to 3 students who fit the criteria. The Dural Chamber Executive will then select a winner from each school who will progress to the District Championship.

Finally, a District Champion from all the school winners will be chosen by an independent panel organised by the YBMA team and the Dural Chamber. The award of Young Business Mind District Champion will be made to the overall winning school in November at a date and venue to be announced.

Prizes:

Individual Schools

Finalists and winners from each participating school will receive a certificate and medal for their achievement.

Young Business Mind District Champion

This award will entail a Perpetual Shield that the school retains for the subsequent year and relinquishes to the Chamber in Term 4 (date to be arranged) of that subsequent year as well as a separate plaque that the school retains in perpetuity.

The student from the winning school will receive a District Champion plaque in addition to the certificate and School Finalist medal already received. Plaques and accompanying certificates will also be given to District Champion second and third place getters from respective schools.

Media

Please note that this award will feature on the YBMA Facebook page as well as receive media coverage in the form of an article in the Dooral RoundUp with permission from the students, parents and schools involved. We may also feature the story on the Dural Chamber's website and its Facebook page and potentially mainstream media.

NOMINATION CRITERIA

A maximum of THREE candidates per school will be accepted and each should meet the following criteria within and/or outside school:

1.  have demonstrated excellent business acumen

2.  possess an innovative mind for business-related issues

3.  are currently/in the process of becoming entrepreneurs

4.  have distinguished themselves in employment

Some distinction areas may include:

A.  design and sale of own products

B.  outside-the-box thinking in solving an operational or administrative problem

C.  creating a solution to resolve a business-related issue using technology

D.  employer recognition of excellence in employee performance.

E.  outstanding results in school business-related subjects

The original nomination form must be completed and submitted with each application. Supporting documents must be no more than 10 pages long and may include:

ï  Photos and/or screenshots of designs, products, software or other creation with clear concise descriptions.

ï  Letter of recommendation outlining student’s performance from relevant employer or teacher.

ï  A short video can be submitted to further demonstrate the business
