Participating in Rouge River Day 2017
River Day is a celebration of the rivers in the southeast Michigan region. The heart of River Day for Friends of the Rouge (FOTR) is Rouge Rescue – your chance for hands-on involvement in the restoration and protection of the Rouge River.
Since 1986, thousands of volunteers have come to the river on the first Saturday in June. They come from area businesses, local governments, school groups, service organizations, churches, homeowner groups and concerned citizens. They are all people like you who want to make a difference and contribute to the quality of life in their communities.
This year in Canton Township Neighborhood events will take place
at
Lotz Road (Between Cherry Hill Rd and Palmer Rd.) and
Canton Temple -44955 Cherry Hill Road. We can help to preserve the quality of Fellows
Creek by participating in the River Day celebration at any of these locations.
How To Dress:
Since painting will be involved in the project, we would suggest wearing old clothes and shoes. Also, please dress according to the weather.
We would also suggest bringing paper towels, old rags or wet wipes to clean your hands, face, etc.
Distributing Door Hangers:
Teams of two will be going door to door, hanging a “fish” tag from the front doorknob. You don’t need to knock, just leave the tags for residents to read at their leisure.
At Registration;
Enjoy a cup of coffee or soft drink and a donut.
Meet the other participants and get your free T-shirt.
Be assigned your team and meet your team leader.
All participants must sign a liability waiver and return it to the coordinator.
Storm Drain Stencils & Decals:
The stencil will be spray painted on and will say “DUMP NO WASTE – DRAINS TO ROUGE RIVER”. This will help everyone understand that what you put down the drain can hurt our Michigan waterways.
The storm drain curb marker decals will be applied with adhesive. This curb marker can be applied to most flat, non-soil surfaces. The decal should be applied to the curb just above the catch basin.
